Did someone forget to feed the Server Hamster?

EDIT: Ack! I know what it is! Someone forgot to put a tinfoil hat on the hamster! Poor little guy was not grounded from the EMP generated by the lightning storms near the servers! Quick! Someone get the little guy to a veterinarian stat! Edited by Reon

I would like to see someone on the dev team chime in on what is going on/the state of whats happening with the server.

It would be nice just to know that they have been notified. The server can be down all they need it to be, beta or not, it's still in Test in a lot of ways, and everyone understands the devs have lives that come first.

But even just a notice that people have the message in their inbox would reassure everyone, I think.

An error must have occured which caused the login part of the play server to crash. The server itself is still up which is why 40 or so people are still connected but if they log out they will not be able to get back on at the moment. It isn't a hardware problem so don't worry about it being down for a long period of time.

I don't deal with connections so this isn't something I can fix but that is my layperson's explanation.

I was told the login server would restart itself, except when they have Debug running, it prevents the restart. Too bad people aren't trusted enough in the team to be able to deal with issues like this.

I don't think it's a trust issues I think they want the people that knows how to fix the problem to see the problem. Not just restart and let the problem happen again and again.

Just the login server is down, I'm on playing. FYI

Remind me when the login server is back up to beat Syberfly within an inch of his life with the soggy end of a Tengu's tail :)

It's not a matter of trust. I'm not a computer programmer so I would have no idea what I'm doing. It's up to tienbau, david, rolo or one of the other code savvy developers to fix a problem like this.

Seems to be up and working. Login server does re-start of it's own accord but Windows seems to be trapping an event and pops up a dialog box saying it's crashed and sking if wan to send info to microsoft. This seems to be what causes the problem. Not sure what fix will be yet.

This is only valid for Windows Server 2008?

In Windows7 doc says:
Open Local Group Policy Editor by typing gpedit.msc in the Start Search and hit Enter
Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Systems > Internet Communication Management > Internet Communication Settings
from the left sidebar

Select Turn Off Windows Error Reporting and enable it.

yeh i dunno man it was a quick google but most likely if you shut off error reporting, that popup wont prevent login from restarting. Edited by Ryle
