When Chickens Collide

Recommended Posts

Two chickens (each 3Kg in mass and posessing an infinite lifespan, barring accidental death) leave the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies at the exact same time on a direct course for each other. Their launch points are 1 light year from the closest points of each galaxy to the other one (open space). They accelerate from 0 meters / sec [relative to the center of each of their galaxies] with a constant 1M Newtons of thrust [assume 0 mass for the engine & propellant for ease of calculations]. Over the centuries, they will reach an appreciable fraction of light speed, and thus have a relativistic mass far greater than their "rest" mass.

Now the big question: On impact... will the trees in the Hurtgen Forest in Germany care?

For those who want a serious challenge, you can attempt to find their FINAL velocity, their relativistic mass, the type of collision [how much will be elastic & how much inelastic], how much mass will be converted into energy and what forms of energy that will be in. Then calculate the absolute magnitude of the flash, and the relative magnitude at [1] the rim of the Milky Way galaxy, [2] the approximate location of Sol at that time [remember: the Milky Way will be ROTATING during this time... take this into account!], and [3] the relative magnitude at the center of the milky way, assuming you could get a line-of-sight to it... somehow.

For those who want a lesser challenge: assume a final velocity of 98% light speed. Determine the answers to the questions above. Also, find what the average thrust would have to be, taking into increasing relativistic mass. For a bit more challenge... do it twice, once from the chicken's frame of reference [3Kg mass & time distortion] and from an outside frame of reference.

Observations:

i) 3Kg is a *%&^(£& big chicken.

ii) Stuffed? This will affect R and inertial result.

iii) If nobody is there to observe, who will know whether the Hurtgen Forest populace will care or not?

iv) Supposition of the existence of extra terrestrial chickens is fowl play.

2) The chickens are alive (until impact), so they're stuffed with their internal organs.

3) The question is whether or not the *TREES* in the forest will care.

4) <LOL>

The answer is in your own post.

It will take centuries, and the first generation of trees when the chickens are launched will tell tales of them. They'll pass this tree-story on from generation to generation. Eventually, the story will be considered a myth, that no two chickens are flying right at each other. They will say things like "No possible way. We are trees on Germany. Who cares?!"

So to summarize,

A) It will take centuries for them to collide.

:) By then, the trees won't care, because they'll be interested in TreeBook and MyBark.

C) The collision will occur eventually, and it'll be featured on TreeTube. It will get thousands of views and 5 Leaves. Treeple will then speak of what they like to do WHEN CHICKENS COLLIDE.

:D ..er, talking trees? (though I have heard they can whisper)

I don't know what happens when chicken collide, but it can't be good.

Heres what happens when a Chicken hits a Porsche traveling at 95+ mph

at the chicken traveling @ 5mph with the wind and the trees in germany

not interfering. :D

I thought for sure we were going to get a comment about the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow.

What is your name?

Where are you from?

What is the air velocity of an unladen Swallow?

Haha, whats really funny is when you look at the picture of the inside of the car, you can see the silouette of the driver in the chicken guts on the drivers seat.
