Slayerman Posted January 17, 2011 Report Share Posted January 17, 2011 Hi All, As there has been no official report as yet, i will try provide some information, now please remember, this is only what i have heard or what i am guessing, so until a official announcement is made, please do not take this as the definitive answer. I have had an e-mail from both CDel and David advising that the Dev server crashed, the dev server was responsible for hosting the websites, and the DNS. (For those not sure what the DNS, its the thing thats make the bit you type in the address bar point to the server the site/game/porn is hosted on.) Now, as far as i can work out, the Dev server is now back up and running, hence why you can see these forums, however, not all functionallity has been restored yet, as the portal is still down. Kyp [LDEV] Posted January 17, 2011 Report Share Posted January 17, 2011 The official authorized answer: We had drive trouble on the dev box, and the DNS was set to be backed up by play. Unfortunately since all of the files for the website were on the dev box, it was unable to point back at them and the site went down. Either way we'll look for solutions for that going forward and everything should be restored shortly. Nothing hurt us, or attacked us, or wronged us (i've heard all the rumors already). We just had a hardware failure and were being careful to make a fresh back up before we restored anything to be doubly sure. We apologize for the downtime. Have fun out there. Davidr99 [Admin] Posted January 17, 2011 Report Share Posted January 17, 2011 Yes, our dev server had crashed. We have copied all data to the play server and are currently restoring the server. We have only brought up so far TS3 and the Forums, all other systems are down. The portal will be next then we will get started on the dev tools. We will be keep everyone posted. My room mate recently got DCUO, but since it just launched their servers and forums are going up and down like crazy. You guys poofed for a while. And this morning before checking here I checked Star Trek Online and their site and servers have been down all day! The sky is falling! The down time helped me get my domestic faction up, watch some movies, do laundry etc etc etc. I thought it was a conspiracy against me getting to L140 Phorlaug.... Through a lot of searching I got a little wind of it from Builders Inc site. But only to see it was for members only. Pulled the chat logs from the game and found a few words in it as it was crashing. Found the IP of the site and changed the host file.
