Eris & Dysnomia, Oort Cloud

Recommended Posts

At some point after Live, how about the addition of 2 sectors to Sol. First Eris & Dysnomia, then later Oort Cloud. Eris would depict Sol as little more than a point of light against a dark background. Oort Cloud would look like a dark asteroid belt overall and Sol would be indistinguishable from other stars. The Gate to Eris would be located in an out of the way part of Pluto & Charon, or in some other inconvenient location in another sector within Sol. Near the gate into Eris, there would be a neutral Station that's under Construction on the far side of the sector there would be a gate to Oort Cloud (Under Construction). The Station would have a hangar and a lobby. There would be a few NPCs in the Lobby, that offer missions. Missions would be based on "civilizing" the sector (getting the Mobs under control, plotting the warp paths, completing the Station, and the gate to Oort).

The Sector itself would have some visible navs, the visibile navs would be the gate in, the gate to Oort Cloud, Eris Station, Eris and her moon Dysnomia, and some navs on a path between the gates. There would be mobs at several of the visible navs, but not at the gates themselves or the base. There would be more hidden navs than visible ones. There would be orefields/gas fields at various locations off the beaten path. Some small, some medium, some large. Ores would range from L6 to L9, orefield guardian mobs would range from CL35 to CL56 and be resistant/immune to Plasma damage (take normal damage from Impact/Explosive/Energy). CL of orefield guardian mobs would vary by the orefield level, number of guardian mobs would vary by orefield size. Other navs, both hidden and visible would also have mobs in similiar range, but they would tend to have more mobs than the orefields, since Warriors are better combatants than Explorers.

Missions would be available for all professions.

Explorers would have missions that require them to mine the various ores that the station needs to finish being built. After a certain number of Explorers have completed the mission the Station gets another area added to it. Either a Lounge or a Bazaar, then the other. (The Devs discretion as to what constututes enough explorers doing the mission)

They would also be required to do recon of the sector. To do so, they would take a mission, and be given a device. The NPC would require certain navs to be scanned (like find and scan all the hidden navs), and certain mobs to be scanned as well. The Device could be something like this:

Eris Scanning Device

L7 Device:

Not Tradeable

Explorers Only

Structure 100%

Quality 100%

Range 5.0K

Scan Object (Activated)

The mission should reward Explore XP, and faction. Not sure if the device should be turned in, or used as a component to make a better Explorers Only device. The mission giver should make a comment about the location of the navs scanned, and something about the mobs being scanned.

Missions for Warriors would have to be based primarily on combat, clearing out mobs in the sector. Various mobs will need to be killed, and parts from their corpses brought back as proof. There would be quite a bit of killing and looting involved, and the warriors would be rewarded Combat XP & faction.

Traders missions would be based on delivering items needed to the station. Some travel, some combat, and building some items for the station. They would be rewarded Trade and Combat XP, and faction. Missions that required building would do a check against the apropriate build skills of the Trader seeking the mission, and would only give mission to aprorpiately skilled traders.

Upon completing enough tasks Eris becomes a normal sector, and the gate to Oort Cloud opens.

Oort cloud would be a large high level sector, where players of L135+ would go to hunt or mine. The only way in or out would be through Eris.

There would be some orefields that were L7 & L8 and would be guarded by mobs L45 and L48. Some pure L9 orefields which would be guarded by mobs ranging in level between L48 and L56. The orefields should be guarded in a manner similiar to other orefields. Mobs guarding the orefields should pose some risk to explorers, but should not be overwhelming. Explorers would have to make an effort to mine around them, but avoiding combat with them should be do-able by an explorer with a low sig, provided the explorer pays attention to what's going on around him.

Perhaps there could be a sort of "graveyard of ships" that has slightly better guardians, but has a higher percentage of hulks in the orefields. If those guardians are such that an Explorer needs protection from Warriors or Traders, then those mobs need to have drops worthy of the warriors/traders time and ammo.

The mobs in the areas that aren't orefields should range from Cl45-Cl66 depending on where in the sector you go. Some navs should be conducive to solo hunting by all classes, others should require you to group. Some of the hunting areas should require that players from all profession types work together to overcome the mobs. Drops should be better at the more difficult navs.

Sounds really good. But it would be a one time event to get the station built, which would be fun but once done, done.

The additional suggestion I'd make would be to make the completing of the station per player, so you or your group has to provide X amount of kills / trade goods / exploration for the station and gate to be fully "open" for you. That way new players would be able to build it up as well and the reward / incentive being the nice high level sector to hunt / mine in.

Just a thought.

Sounds quite a bit like that nasty patch of ore/clouds in the grav well east of Pax Decima-whatsit in Lagarto (NE of Deneb Path 2 and far east of Deneb gate)

Though Lagarto's what I'd call a tad overpowering for a lone explorer, and challenging even with a party of two warriors, three explorers and a TT shield-recharger.

+5 to that idea.

It could be similar in premise to the missions done in FFXI to gain access to "Sky" (a set of somewhat tedious, but fun missions with a storyline to get access to a series of high level content zones)
