Woodstock HGM [HGM] Posted March 22 Report Posted March 22 A couple weeks ago I tripped and fell on my right knee, What I didn't know is that I fractured my knee, on Sunday while in the shower I shift my weight from my left foot to my right foot while turning around and almost passed out from pain, on Tuesday I was at my allergy doctor and as I was going from pavement to raised sidewalk, I re-injured it, fell across the hood of my car in pain, using words I learned while in the navy, and a few other languages to vent my pain, I'm lucky my Primary care physician is in the same parking lot. I hobbled in on crutches, the receptionist placed my in the first free spot available to be seen, the doctor listened to my description of the events made an order for x-rays, which I immediately went and got, the staff at outpatient pavilion at local hospital expedited my path through the check in procedures as they could see me in pain, got the x-rays, the results came back to day I had a follow-up with my primary care doctor today, he read the results to me I had fractured my knee severely and will most likely need corrective surgery and a cast (joy of joys), but for the time being I am stuck in bed with pillows under my leg to hold it in a natural rest position, I cant get in the game for a bit, I am working updating a Laptop that I haven't used for a few years so that I can try and at least get any gm help tickets signed off and chat in game, well that's all for now more later when I have an update. 2 Quote

Woodstock HGM [HGM] Posted March 27 Author Report Posted March 27 UPDATE I saw the orthopedic surgeon to day he's ordered a replacement Knee joint it appears I had an unknown issue in my right knee ( a cyst kind of like a sinkhole on the top of my tibia, he said sooner or later it would have fractured so when I fell on my knees I caused it to fracture and also caused more damage, so it not an easy fix but I will get a new knee out of it, this will possibly as early as this coming Monday Monday morning I have my pre surgery consultation and will find out more, I will post more Monday if I am able. 1 Quote
Codemonkeyx Posted March 27 Report Posted March 27 Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to make the world's first bionic man. Woodstock will be that man. Better than he was before. Better... stronger... faster. 1 Quote
Woodstock HGM [HGM] Posted March 31 Author Report Posted March 31 correct Birdfarm. **** UPDATE ***** had an MRI last Thursday had an appointment with Orthopedic surgeon to day, he said my knee is bad and he could fix it, if, it were not for the preset of a tumor in the area of the damage and extending in the joint area, he going to refer me to the UCSF orthopedic oncologist in San Francisco, Since I currently can not drive and my wife is a very nervous driver I will need to find an alternate way to get to the appointment and arrange for possible multiple over night stays, we shall see, I am in lots of pain my right hip hurts I think mostly from the effort of holding my right leg up a little bit off the floor when I am crutches and cant put any weight on leg, and from sleeping in weird positions so the I can curl up in a position that's mostly comfortable and is not putting weight or side to side movement on my knee joint, an almost impossible task, I will post more when I have more to post. 2 Quote

Spa[IS] Posted April 2 Report Posted April 2 I have had my right hip replaced and now need right knee as well, my wife has had her right knee replaced and now on waiting list for her left knee. In Australia it is free under Medicare. Hope it goes well for you. Quote
Woodstock HGM [HGM] Posted April 13 Author Report Posted April 13 ********* UPDATE************ well I am home now after 6 days confined to a bed at the UCSF orthopedic/oncology hospital, I have ultrasounds of both legs, a CT scan of legs, A Biopsy of my right knee, waiting for the lab results, probably gave a quart of blood for the lab vampires. and finally Friday night got an MRI was waiting since Tuesday after the biopsy to get,' now my surgery has been scheduled for April 25th showtime at 5 am, which means I have to go back on the 24th and check in and sleep there the night before the surgery, the surgeon said I am first inline and she will be replacing my whole knee joint, bottom of thigh bone and top of Tibia, move a couple of muscles to hold my patella in place, she said I literally destroyed my knee when I tripped and fell, I tried to log in on my win 11 laptop but didn't have enough of a signal to connect So I could not connect or get online. now that I am home I'll try and be online as much as I can be. More later 1 Quote
Spa[IS] Posted April 14 Report Posted April 14 Don't overdo it, rest a lot AND take the DAMN meds. BTW drink lots and try to move when you can for little bits at a time, constipation will set in otherwise. Quote
Woodstock HGM [HGM] Posted April 15 Author Report Posted April 15 *************** UPDATE************** the doctors office called me this morning to tell me the Biopsy results came in, It is as I feared, the cyst/tumor that weakened my knee joint bones so when I fell on they fractured, is Cancer, possibly a particle from my kidney cancer (2010) that remained in the shadows until it was found when i fractured my knee, So the plan is I will be resting at home until the 24th when i go check-in and do all of the pre-surgery labs and tests. with going in to surgery ay 5 am on the 25th. with me being there approximately 2 weeks, then home to recover and sleep from the pain meds. LOL. Quote
Codemonkeyx Posted April 16 Report Posted April 16 Sorry to hear Woody, hopefully that's the worst of it and it's good news from here on out! What are the implications of the biopsy results? Are they going to have to do more during the surgery as a result? Any more follow-on treatment beyond the knee replacement? We'll all be here pulling for you, don't hesitate to reach out if there is anything we can help with around here so you can focus on getting back on your feet. Quote
Woodstock HGM [HGM] Posted April 27 Author Report Posted April 27 thanks guys. ******UPDATE******* I got wheeled down to surgery at 530 am, they did an epidural for the pain, plugged in the machines transferred me to the surgical table and cavemen the anesthetic which was just after 8 am I looked up at the clock, I woke up around 7pm my knee is extremely painful, wrapped tightly and reached to keep it aligned over all doing good Doctors said about a week to go before I go home and no weight bearing on my right foot, in about 6 weeks I should be start weight bearing and Walking using my right leg and foot. this hospital is nice only problem I have had is at night its either boiler room hot or freezing cold, I really wished I could have something more than an android tablet. so surgery went well, recovery is happening and boredom Has started to set in primarily due the pain meds, time for a nap. 2 Quote
Woodstock HGM [HGM] Posted April 30 Author Report Posted April 30 wish I had a working laptop here I am confined to the bed all day and night long and have a great opportunity to play the game for long periods. on a side note I might be home Sunday, Physical therapist had me get off bed into my wheelchair had drive around the build staying on this floor. primarily to judge my upper arm movement and strength. tomorrow is to make it to the door and back to the bed using the walker. the next day walking (hobbling) from bad to the nurses station and back with the nurse bringing the IV stand and another with my wheel chair if I have to stop and rest, if I do well they probably move my check time sooner, once the unplug my IV epidural from my back and the IV's from my arms (3) I will be one more step checked off to leave, I will check tickets after I get home and get adjusted and rest from the trip home I am in a brace to keep my leg straight for 6 weeks, because of this I have to sit in the back seat with my leg across the seat, we all know how the floor space is in cars made in the last 20 years, all I can say back seat in my car not at all comfortable. there is no way that am able to get in to the front seat I would have to recline the seat and sit on the head rest for the trip with my leg hanging over the end of the seat and against the glove boxes, LOL, well that all for this update. 2 Quote
Codemonkeyx Posted May 1 Report Posted May 1 Thanks for keeping you us up to date Woody! Glad to hear you might be home soon, hopefully that pans out! Quote
Spa[IS] Posted May 1 Report Posted May 1 Different to my hip replacement and wifes knee replacement. Soon as we woke up the next morning the physiotherapists had us up and using our new parts. Nothing like being yelled at at 8am. Quote
Woodstock HGM [HGM] Posted May 2 Author Report Posted May 2 *****Update****** Well the took all of the IV lines and catheter out so now I can get up and hobble around to building before I can leave. I am supposed to be discharged either Sunday or Monday so I could be in game either Monday or Tuesday. for the next few weeks my game time will be limited to a few hours a day but I will be working tickets first. but as I recover more I'll spend more time in game, so see you all in a few days. 1 Quote
Redbeard[IS] Posted May 2 Report Posted May 2 Yes, do stay safe. One thing to remember as you go forward is to make sure you do ALL of the therapy they give you to do. I have several friends that have had knee and hip replacements. Those that were religious about doing their therapy are by far the happiest with their outcomes. The two that didn't, are regretting their decisions now. Think Nike! Just Do It!!! Best of luck! Dusty/Redbeard Quote
Woodstock HGM [HGM] Posted May 5 Author Report Posted May 5 believe me I want endure the pain of Therapy, if it means I can walk and drive again. on a note of levity I am having withdrawal symptoms from not playing EnB for so long and just sitting/laying here in bed, I should be discharged tomorrow and be home tomorrow evening, ($ hour drive each way to and from hospital (yes I do live in the boonies in California and quite away from the "big" cities. I will try to get in game at least in the GM Chat Tool to and the GMTools to work any tickets that are in the cue **************Beyond this point may cause stomach upset and revulsion pictures of my leg after several day when they changed the dressings, leg2. Leg 1 was taken this morning when doctor came and removed the last drain not far up my leg from my ankle the top of the scar will be just above the right knee, as you can see when people in my family do things we tend to go overboard and go for r the max critical form the damage, lol. see you all soon.
