Wyverlunder Posted March 10 Report Posted March 10 Well, things sure are interesting... Got my game re-installed, got net-7 launcher working smoothly, figured out how to recover passwords for my sub-accounts, played the game for a bit, everything smooth as glass...and then it happened...my wife saw me playing, and said..I love that game!! Install it on my PC too so I can play!! Calamity!! I use Windows 10 with Mozilla, she uses Windows 11 with Chrome...I don't understand why it won't work...but it won't work. Installed fine, ran the E&B config fine, updated Net-7 Launcher no issues. But when it's time to hit "PLAY" it pauses for 20-25 seconds then says "Server failed to respond to login attempt". I ran compatibility troubleshooter (win XP pack 3), I run it as administrator, I allowed the net 7 app and the launcher app both thru windows defender, I opened TCP and UDP ports 3500-3800 for client.exe as well as the launcher, I verified that the IP listed matches what is shown on the command line with ipconfig. Nothing gets past - Server failed to respond to login attempt. If i bypass the net-7 launcher, and run the client.exe directly from the 'release' folder, the game starts, Megan says hello, accepts my login info, and lets me pick between characters...but freezes at the galaxy map. Its not a provider issue, since i am connecting with the identical router. I'm stumped, and my wife has accused me of not wanting her to play now...SAVE ME!!! Quote
Woodstock HGM [HGM] Posted March 10 Report Posted March 10 Check the local IP address on the net-7 launcher it may be incorrect, I have that intermittently on one computer where the IP address is not correct when i start up. Quote

Wyverlunder Posted March 11 Author Report Posted March 11 @Woodstock HGM yeah, i made sure the IP matches. Had to look up how to find out what her local IP even was, but it matches. @Codemonkeyx I opened the ports for both net 7 tcp and udp, and for the client tcp and udp, made sure the IP matches, and made sure windows defender has net 7 and client whitelisted. Still no luck, I even turned off windows defender completely, it came back with "server failed to respond to login" instantly instead of waiting for 20-25 seconds like it normally does when the firewall is on. When i use the client directly, it goes to the correct login, if i give it bogus password for the account it knows instantly, but a correct password takes it to the galaxy map then freezes...very confusing =(. is it a windows 11 thing? do i need something beside NET 2.0? Woodstock HGM [HGM] Posted March 11 Report Posted March 11 I run win 11 after migrating from win 10, I have rarely had any issues installing and running the game everything runs the way its supposed to on my systems, So I am no sure what to say that could help you, we'll have to get more systems knowledgeable than me on this issue. Wyverlunder Posted March 11 Author Report Posted March 11 i'm going to try uninstalling and re-installing the launcher and the client, see if that changes anything. Quote
Codemonkeyx Posted March 11 Report Posted March 11 (edited) This seems like a network problem of some kind, so I would continue to focus on what might be different about your wife's computer when compared to yours. Is she on wi-fi rather than a wired connection? Does her computer have multiple interfaces or complicated network configuration (like a laptop with both a wired, wireless, bluetooth, VPN, etc. connections)? Can you post the Win+R, cmd, ipconfig output from both computers? Is there any other security software running on her system aside from Windows Defender? Norton, McAfee, any kind of VPN, etc. Edited March 11 by Codemonkeyx Quote
Wyverlunder Posted March 15 Author Report Posted March 15 @Codemonkeyx Sorry it took so long to get back to this. So the wife is on a wired ethernet connection, going to the same router i connect to. She doesn't have any other machines linked to her PC(desktop/tower). She uses Windows Defender and Malware Bytes. I've tried connecting with one, then the other, then both off, no difference. The ipconfig for her system isthe top one, the ipconfig for my system is the bottom of the 2 Quote
Wyverlunder Posted March 15 Author Report Posted March 15 And just like that...reading the post to clean up the many spelling and grammar errors...I noticed her machine had 2 ip's...192.168.56.1...which the Net7 launcher defaulted to...and 198.168.1.66...and wouldn't you know it. Everything works. Just like that. Thank you @Codemonkeyx!! I always knew the 56.1 address for other games we play together, never noticed the 1.66 one. My wife is especially grateful, being able to return to a game she's loved since 2004 and played on and off through the decades since. Quote
Codemonkeyx Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 Glad to hear it! Yeah, the launcher/net7proxy seems to be trying to be too smart about network connections but not smart enough to do the right thing. It seems to get easily confused on systems (like your wife's) with multiple interfaces. It should be trying to connect to sunrise.net-7.org on each interface and selecting the one which works if it's going to try and be smart about interfaces / IP's at all, otherwise it should just send the packets and let the OS handle it.
