wmtyrance Posted July 29, 2024 Report Posted July 29, 2024 (edited) I just got a friend to try out the game. His PC is high-end with an SSD. I told him about the launcher and checking all 4 boxes and we tried switching to Windows mode and full screen but nothing worked. He lives near me so we use the same internet provider too. What else can we do to help him or he just going to quit because it makes the game unplayable? Edited July 29, 2024 by wmtyrance Quote
Yeti [GM] Posted July 29, 2024 Report Posted July 29, 2024 Hi Wmtyrance, I saw the chats in-game also, the only thing I can ttthink it may be is if your friend has a rather aggresive anti-virus scanner that insists on scanning all files as they are loaded or used (shot in the dark btw). I'm sure other players/staff may have a better insight though so hang tight. Quote
Dragonfly [CDEV] Posted July 29, 2024 Report Posted July 29, 2024 Hi there. You may want to ensure you are running your launcher as 'admin'. The other thing is to ensure that your antivirus/malware protection and firewalls are set to always allows traffic from Net -7 through them. Each one can react differently so an exception is the best best for that. Try those options and see if any of them work for you. See you in game! -Dragonfly Quote
wmtyrance Posted July 30, 2024 Author Report Posted July 30, 2024 Net7 does not show up in aloud apps through the firewall. Would it be called something else? Quote
Dragonfly [CDEV] Posted July 31, 2024 Report Posted July 31, 2024 You will need to add them to the allowed apps. Your firewall won't automatically put them there. You're looking for the Net-7 launcher.exe file and you will put that into your allowed apps. Mine is located : C:\Program Files (x86)\Net-7 Yours should be in a similar location if you used the installers to get in game. -Dragonfly Quote
Codemonkeyx Posted July 31, 2024 Report Posted July 31, 2024 Can someone explain how a firewall, which blocks traffic entirely, could result in long loading screens, rather than just not loading at all? Quote
wmtyrance Posted August 1, 2024 Author Report Posted August 1, 2024 (edited) Ok so he did this with the firewall and all the other stuff and it did not work. It's too bad too because he really wanted to play the game. He didn't even get the hull upgrade mission when he clicked on that message when you first left the station. Edited August 1, 2024 by wmtyrance Quote
Yeti [GM] Posted August 1, 2024 Report Posted August 1, 2024 The hull upgrade mission for the TS is given by Administrator Luzzinni in the Bar (Cocktail glass image above the door access on the left as you enter the main room in the TS starting station.) The pop up was probly from Megan welcoming you as a new pilot, nothing to do with any mission(s). As a heads up the firewall stuff will have NO bearing on slow loading times what so ever it is an Allow/Dis-allow access software/device not a scan and slow applications down one. Pleasse elaborate as to what you mean by "Long Loading screens," is it the intro move or the docking/undocking from a station or gating from sector to sector without this info it is kinda hard to help with the issue. Quote
wmtyrance Posted August 1, 2024 Author Report Posted August 1, 2024 It's docking and undocking along with gating to other zones. Also, hang up's when talking to NPCs and even logging out to the desktop or character select. he just sits there and nothing happens. Quote
Yeti [GM] Posted August 1, 2024 Report Posted August 1, 2024 On the launcher do you have ALL 4 box's checkd as shown below? If not you will have slow loading times, it will also significantley reduce the crash to desktop and hanging issues but not elimiate them. Please up date if your still having issues though. wmtyrance Posted August 1, 2024 Author Report Posted August 1, 2024 Yes, he has those boxes checked. He also just told me he has super antimalware running in the background. Could that be it? Quote
Yeti [GM] Posted August 1, 2024 Report Posted August 1, 2024 "Super Antimalware" is a anti-virus/malware software so most likley yes, as a test they could disable it for the duration of playing EnB as long as they ONLY access known safe sites whilst its disabled and re-enable after ceasing playing EnB. If that helps the issue then they would need to look at how to add an exception for the game and its files, thats beyond the scope of us GM's as its nothing to do with EnB files, sorry. Quote
Yeti [GM] Posted August 1, 2024 Report Posted August 1, 2024 As a heads up you may want to get them to look at the link below and the "Cons" section specifically also the final verdict at the bottom of the page.: https://www.techradar.com/reviews/superantispyware It is not software I would use personally. wmtyrance Posted August 1, 2024 Author Report Posted August 1, 2024 You guys have been great will see how this goes. Quote
wmtyrance Posted August 2, 2024 Author Report Posted August 2, 2024 Things have improved he played for an hour and a half before he got a loading screen while gating or docking. Don't know what else he can do. He just uninstalled that super anti-spyware malware program and things got better but the one loading screen after a long play. Could long play have something to do with it? Quote
Yeti [GM] Posted August 2, 2024 Report Posted August 2, 2024 Nope I can be online for over 14-20 hours sometimes and no issues on 6 clients(albeit separate PC's). Part of the issue is that without seeing/looking at whats actually running on their PC we can't advise. One option would be to get them on discord and share their screen and I/we could troubleshoot that way but thats above and beyond what we do as GM's. Quote
Codemonkeyx Posted August 2, 2024 Report Posted August 2, 2024 Given the other things mentioned in this thread I'm guessing he's got some other garbage software running on his computer affecting performance. I would recommend downloading Malware Bytes and running that. It is highly regarded and has a long reputation of being a quality tool, unlike the vast majority of anti-virus, anti-malware, etc. tools. You don't need to pay for it, sign up for anything, etc. Just run the free manual scan and remove all the bad stuff it reports. Also, while playing the game and experiencing a long loading screen, press the Ctrl+Shift+Esc keys at the same time and Task Manager will pop up. Click through each of the tabs at the top, CPU, Memory, Disk, Network to sort by that column and see what process(es) are reported as having the highest usage. This may give you a clue as to what is causing the poor performance. Quote

Could long play have something to do with it? ENB (the game client) has a memory leak. After 2-4 hours (depending on what you're doing) the game's leaks will hit such a size that the game becomes unstable. This is not something the net-7 devs can fix. The best way around it is to restart the client when you see it using more than 350MB or so of RAM. If you watch it, a fresh client should be using around 225-250, and it will slowly crawl up (mostly after gating; I notice my trade runs inflate memory WAY faster than sitting in a sector doing combat) to 300, 400, and 500MB. Around 400+ MB, I find the game just starts acting 'weird'. Things don't load, stuff freezes, etc. Just restart the client and the problems all go away. "But I have 16GB of memory! That's nothing" It's not about the game fitting in memory. It's about how the game...think about it this way. ENB grabs a piece of paper. It then draws on part of that paper, erasing and re-writing over the same areas. But every so often, instead of erasing completely, it grabs new memory and leaves some smudges. Over time, less and less clean paper exists. Now, you have a whole stack of clean paper, but the game can only use that one sheet, because the game was written at a time where 1GB of RAM was something almost nobody had. So a lot of their internal 'stuff' (math, logic, memory allocation) is doing tricks to continue existing on that single sheet of paper. Eventually, as the paper runs out, a mistake gets made. Some value gets overflowed, some function points at old data...no idea what it *actually* is, but when that happens, the client starts to break. Edited August 9, 2024 by Doctor moar detail Quote
