A very weird issue...

Recommended Posts

Greetings :)

I just tried to log in, and - as you can see, that one failed!

However, if I use LimyVPN, running exactly the same way - OK! :)

Router is Linksys AE2500, if that helps you?

Regards,
Proconsul Janwarrior

the error means, that login HTTPS connection and global server connection (both tcp, but different ports) are seen coming from different IP's by sunrise server.

One explanation is proxy (either manual, or automatic), other explanation is that tcp:443 (HTTPS) is masqueraded to different IP than global server connection.

There is also a possibility that someone is doing MITM attack on your HTTPS connection.

And - Today - I - unfortunately think that I can tell, *why* I do have this kind of rather *weird* issue!!!

Last Weekend I tried to play, through my Lenovo A5000 mobile, that is *also* using the Globe Telecom network...

There I do NOT need to use VPN (!)...

As for the Globe Telecom TP-Link W8901N modem/router goes:

Advanced Setup/Routing:
Looks like:

#

Dest IP

Mask

Gateway IP

Metric

Device

Use

Edit

Drop

1

10.188.45.91

32

10.188.45.91

2

192.168.254.0

enet0

3

Node1

2

Should have looked like:

#

Dest IP

Mask

Gateway IP

Metric

Device

Use

Edit

Drop

1

10.216.xxx.xxx

??

10.188.45.91

If somebody can help me figuring out the Mask (??) value, then I might be able to call this - A - Day!!!  0_0 ...

That is true enough, however - if I try to use the 255.255.255.255 as suggested, I get that refused (!)...

I tried to run through my own mobile last Weekend, and then I did not even use VPN Access :)

So, I do want to do - another - experiment (!) :)

Let us for a moment forget (!) that both 10.216.xxx.xxx AND 10.188.45.91 are PRIVATE Networks :)

What mask would then fit ? ;) 0_0 ...

No, thats not how networking works. As your router gets assigned address from 10.x.x.x range, you could use /8. As whole internet falls outside the network/mask it would still work.

I started with Internet (Emails) back in 1988, so I ain't - exactly - a - noob...

I have tried more or less all possible combos, they all get - rejected (!)...

Node1 cannot be used...

If I try 10.216.255.255, then I get an error (!) message:

IP Address cannot be broadcast IP

What are you trying to do? You can't just override the IP's ISP is giving to you and expect it to work. You can override netmask and internet would still work because, in your case, you are given IP from 10.x.x.x which is not used by the rest of the internet.

I am trying to get rid of this problem! :)

Let us take a different approach for the time being then? :)

Source IP: 192.168.254.254 (local router's gateway IP)

Mask: ?

Port: 0 (don't care)

Destination IP: 38.130.197.232 (sunrise.net-7.org)

Mask: ?

Port: 0 (don't care)

Protocol: UDP/TCP

What mask(s) would I put up then? :)

Thats not how networking works.

Your local (LAN) IP/mask only determines which traffic gets routed to which gateway (default gw gets all that does not match).

If you have two uplinks, then you can route traffic to net7  ip's from either of them, but with single gateway you have no control.

Your outgoing IP address information should all be provided by your ISP. In most cases, the range is dynamic (ISP assigned by a DHCP server). I don't understand why you are trying to manually route traffic, when this process should be working automatically.

My setup uses a single router, like most. I don't assign any of the address information to the outside, as the ISP does this for me. And that router also handles IP addressing for my internal machines through its DHCP capabilities. Nothing special required to connect to the game server. Why is yours any different?

Sorry, but this is a replacement modem/router with inbuilt Wi-Fi, from Globe Telecom, Republic of the Philippines.

I will wait for a reply, from TP-link, and then hang up the trouble, with my ISP.

I will - of course - keep you - all - informed :)

  • 4 weeks later...

I have done - something - else!!!

On Saturday that was, I went to Globe Telecom, once again, and bought myself a Globe LTE Wi-Fi device.

I have now t.e.r.m.i.n.a.t.e.d the crappy DSL connection (!)...

Wrongly configured, and very bad for my health (!!!).

With the LTE I am happy :)

No more need for running VPN, to play Earth & Beyond!!! :D
