1.
Am I understanding this correctly? It looks like the old ropa dope, take attention away from the issue(s) at hand by taking the discussion to what other games do. If so almost ALL other games have some form of PvP in them. We could go that direction too, pretty sure that would drive away a few more players. Other games have some sort of player lodging (LOTR for one EQ2 for another, and don't forget Horizons (Istaria)). I think this was all discussed in an other thread with the Progen missions and forced inter class/race content for HU/optional mission items. If this is the way EnB emu is going to go just say so, STOP saying that every one else has it, Please... If your buddy jumped off a bridge would you jump off that same bridge?
I am going to assume this was aimed at Rolo rather than myself since I am trying to validate the argument that the HU should not require other race/classes to achieve.
2.
LOTRO is an example of where you cannot level up without gaining something from another class. The Trader classes such as woodworkers, metalsmiths and weaponsmiths cannot go past thier 3rd tier witout completing a quest that requires them to make an item whose components they have to get from another class. The one thing that makes this work in LOTRO is the auction house. Rolo
Good point Rolo. I've never played LOTR so that is interesting to know. An Auction House would make a world of difference rather than hanging out all day looking for a builder. Ramses brings up an important distinction though. If LOTR has this requirement to advance a crafting skill then that is not what is at debate here. We are talking about the core character advancement and not secondary skills. As Ramses stated I too am not familiar enough with LOTR to know if this is the case.
3.
All, First I can see the concerns, and I do know that some people like to go the solo route. I respect that. However, Lets remember that games like this are MMO's anr by their nature social. The need to work with others is a cornerstone of much of the game. In addition the intertwining of the story lines (Agrippa in the very immature TS story) is interesting, it is part of the spice that makes the story interesting. By the time you get the lvl 135 you really should have the experience and network built up so that the need to gather some Agrippa parts is not so daunting. I can make all of the Agrippa parts for you and would be happy to do so, just PM me in game.
Lan I'm sorry but I must disagree. Once you have reached a certain level you have in essence "done your time" and the reward for doing all that work is advancement. Having to beg , plead, or borrow others assistance just so you can claim what is rightfully yours is not appropriate. Though MMOs are a social event it should never mean that you are forcefully restricted from progressing because someone thinks it's a nifty idea to make you deal with others. If I want to raid I will look for a group but if I can't advance when I have already earned it then the class is not worth my time. I can't think of another MMO that requires you to enlist other players (there may be but I'm not aware of it) just so you can advance your character other than to gain xp to level up but even then it is entirely by choice.
4. PD has worked fine for me thus far. I've had no issues with it and it is functioning as described. Since the Sentinel is one of the few classes who's abilities all work I must question those who suddenly feel that we need to start tinkering with their abilities. How about we get ALL class abilities working properly, mobs functioning properly (having actual reactor amounts to sap etc.) and go from there? It's hard to actually do a realistic test of abilities until such a thing occurs.
5. The items you bring up in your first point really are not that much of a problem. I understand that most people now days want everything instantly but that kind of defeats the purpose of an MMO. By their very nature MMOs are time sinks and as such are written in a way that tries to make the experience last as long as possible. But you do make me think of a something that has always bothered me. I was doing a mission (hull upgrade or something)and it was taking forever with all the running around and I noticed that quite a bit of what I was doing required me to fly to far off sectors simply to talk to an individual. Not deliver an item or pick something up but simply chat. The whole time I am thinking to myself, "We have stellar gates, warp speed, highly advanced devices of war, and yet for all my technology my ship can't make a simple phone call and save me all this travel time." Now I know that that is part of the game itself and I can live with that but when I put myself in the role of my character the logic of it leaves a big gaping "WTH?" feeling. From my understanding the whole point of this project was to emulate the game as it was in Live. Yes, there have been changes and I am sure more will come but the core of it all is to have things running as it was when Sunset occurred. At least that is what I have always thought the intended goal to be. So by implementing your suggestions for your second comment it would no longer be Earth and Beyond. You would basically have a new game built on the foundation of the old and that misses the whole point of the project.
6. Ok cool. Thanks for the info Byakhee. That clears things up for me.
7.
In reply to Peorth: Build Shields 7 required before you can start Stage II. In fact all Stage II require maximum build skills - they only want the best...
Just a question here but do the NPCs require you to tear apart and rebuild an alternate lvl 7 shield, weapon, etc. prior to granting this part of the mission tree? That way they can "test" the player before proceeding and it let's they player know "Hey bud you gotta reach this build lvl before you can go on." I haven't done this part yet because my build lvl is one point shy atm.
8. 1) That blows. 2) How do they define invalid activity?
9.
I can agree with a few new channels. I know each of the original classes has it's own unique channel, but the new classes don't. We also have an OOC channel but no actual "In Character" channel.
I like the idea of a roleplay channel. That could be quite entertaining. Kyp, as I stated in my original post most people's chat doesn't "offend" me (I've worked on boats so it's kinda hard to do that lol) and I truly don't expect someone to sit all day policing the chat channels. I guess I was just more curious as to why these changes are occurring within the chat channels and I will adjust my communications accordingly. As it stands I'll be happy to screenshot any truly offensive stuff and make you guys aware of it and leave it at that.
10. While playing last night I could not help but notice that an "argument" began in the New Player chat. This argument included calling another player an f'in a-hole. As things simmered down and conversations continued we then went to making slant eyed remarks about the Chinese, religious discussions, and how bad-assed one was vs another. Now personally, I don't care if people are making such commentary. Showing one's ignorance is everyone's personal right and more power to you. What does bother me is that in this long, drawn-out conversation, some players were trying to ask legitimate questions about the game in the channel they are supposed to be able to use. I've noticed this occurring more and more often in New Player chat. Is it the intent of the GM team to allow the New Player chat to become the "Barrens Chat" of E&B? It has gotten harder and harder to find a GM online (yes, I know they log on from time to time but there used to be one on almost ALL the time)and I'm sorry but as a player it does nothing but spark an argument when you ask someone to change channels or watch their language.
11. Hey Tienbau. I don't know if this is related to the same issue but last night,(7/7/11), I activated the Jupiter gate from Saturn and it loaded me into F7. When I came out of F7 I was back in Saturn. It only happened once so I'm hoping it was just a fluke but I have been noticing that gating in Swooping Eagle or Yokan can and has caused my ship to disappear or warp me out to some obscure nav. I also have an issue with my PS in Glenn and Swooping Eagle with her missions keying off as though I just completed a step for no apparent reason. That happens every time I am in those systems for an extended amount of time and every time I am docked at F7 for more than 5 minutes. None of these things has been any real concern but just wanted to let you know.
12. Dakynos said: "I'm also curious about the comment about letting non-puzzlers take the spoiler route. Isn't that the whole point of the bonus missions? If you don't want to puzzle out what to do shouldn't you just skip them? I'm not trying to give anyone a hard time, I'm just trying to understand this point of view. More on-topic, I've started my first Agrippa mission and am looking forward to it quite a bit. Although it may be a bit easier on me since I'm reading through the forums a lot, I'm still interested to see what problems, if any I run into." You just answered your own question Now don't get me wrong here, I'm not in any way trying to be rude or poke fun at your comment Dak but pouring over the forums to make your journey through the missions easier is exactly what he is talking about when he says spoilers. Though I do believe he is meaning a complete step by step rather than actually looking through the posts one by one. I don't particularly agree with the tone Mattsacre used or the idea to not test things, but I can understand his frustration. I started running the Agrippa missions on Ladymorgue (PS) and Graveyard (PP)within the last 3 weeks or so. I did my duty and read through the description of mission selection vs. lvl, spoke with he NPCs associated with the missions, and now sit terrified because of the completely convoluted conversations and knowing that if I pick one wrong thing, I'm screwed. Thankfully, Magoo was kind enough to "suggest" what 3 missions Lady's class should proceed through! Graveyard went down the hull material mission I believe but I have had such a difficult time finding the mine-able materials he needs I can't remember exactly what he was proceeding to. All in all I do not find the missions enjoyable though I will keep trying. If they were easier to follow and more concise in intent and direction I would not have a problem with them. I'd even be happy with being "locked" into a particular research path once you began just so you could follow what is going on a little easier. That would at least ensure you were able to got to the shield, ammo, etc. you really wanted. Just my opinion on things.
13. In my heart SWG died a long time ago. I have not played a SOE MMO since the day the CU went into effect way back when. The night before I had gone out gathering Mandalorian armor pieces on Dathomir to complete a suit, went to bed, got up the next morning and patched the game. Suddenly, none of my gear could be worn, weapons not used, and skills all borked to hell and back. So, I toured our guild city one last time and gave away everything my character owned. Then Illydar walked into the desert and was never seen again. I know it was just a game but it was one of the hardest things I have ever done in an MMO. I still miss it. Thank goodness we have the emulator!
14. I needz to mine!!! Ooo my sigs are borked (fixed!)
