  1. Hello, I wanted to start playing again and found I could no longer login and all attempts to reset my password seems to fail. I even decided, sure I'd just create a new account but no luck logging in on that either. Still ideally I would prefer to recover my old account. Thoughts?
  2. I have the same problem with my orginal account.  Created a second account and that plays fine.  Something must have happened to older accounts, by the way, my first account works everywhere except the game.
  3. I have the same problem.  Never started working again.
  4. So I still can't log in with my account and the avatars do not show.  No response to any tickets.
  5. OK, created a new account and I can get to that, portal shows my avatars for the previous account but can't log in.
  6. Haven't played in a while.  My login isn't recognized.  Even stranger I run it normally the resolution once heading towards log in seems normal.  As administrator is is much smaller on my screen.  Both ways do not recognize my account.  I have verified the account both in the forums and the other site.  Very strange.   Spacegrrrl
  7. I was on Galileo with several characters, Jennison a TT, Amalee a TE, Lynjade a JE and some others I don't remember.  By the last day of the servers I had 5 characters maxed out.   I'm playing once in a while as Jennison/Kyra.  May start to play more if I find the time.   Still wishing things were a little more like they were at "lights out" but the current game is still pretty good at reminded my why I loved E&B so much.  By the way I'm Issler Dainze in Eve is anyone cares.   Kyra
  8. Connect to the "other" server as an option... (ducks under the table). When you finish it will it be added to the SVN? Spacegrrrl
  9. So I have consistently asked one simple question and I never get and answer from this team. Many sucessful server emulator projects have been created. They all seem to share databases openly and encourage private servers. What makes E&B have to be closed to succeed when these other project flourish? Just some examples, Everquest: http://www.eqemulator.org/ WoW: http://arcemu.org/ Ultima Online http://www.joinuo.com/ Star Wars Galaxies http://www.swgservers.com/swgemu-help/swgemu-compiling-help/ By the way, this is an interesting read, looks like the SWGEmu community had a similar spintering and are tryng to find a way to come back together. Some backgrouns on that: http://www.swgemu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11609 Finally, to say somehow the databased isn't part of this project is borderline bizare. You could make the same case any source code that is managed is really just "data" too and the JIT engine is the only part of the project that is shared. In the end its all "just data" a processor gobbles and acts on. All of the database is ultimately recreating content originally provided by Westwood/EA. I'd almost buy the argument if the game as it exists today was totally different the the orginal E&B but just used the client and art assets, but its not. Now I learned there is a third projet! Wow, wonder how long till 4! :-) Spacegrrrl
  10. C Del, how do you justify "stealing" EA's work product. Using your logic you have no right to any of the assets of E&B. EA or Westwood certainly never agreed to let you use the result of the considerable efforts of Westwood. This was set up as an open source project from its inception. When I set up a computer as part of the pool to help break the packet encryption I never thought I was doing it so YOU would "own" anything. Somehow over time this team has decided they "own" things they honestly don't. I just gave $50 to the other team and will continue to do at least as much once a month for some time to come. They seem to understand what the original intention of this project was. The initial design documents that saw a future where lots of folks ran their own servers, developed their own content and players could seamlessly enjoy an entire community of servers and unique shared content. That was something exciting. This project now has given up trying to be the game that once was and is trying to be something "better". Not sure any of this team has the background to make that likely to happen. At least the other project remains true to the original vision of getting it back to "lights off" first before inventing something new. I'm sure I've started the ban hammer in motion, and as I've said before, I applaud the efforts of this team to get thing running as well as they are. I also say I totally disagree with the efforts to make this a closed private effort, I don't agree with the focus of new content before the replication of old content. Most folks here don't care about any of this, they are playing a not bad game for free and "meta issues" revolving around these discussions are likely viewed as sour grapes from disfunctionals whiners. Fair enough. Let's see over time which approach pays off in the end. I think comments in this thread helped me decide on the horse I'll bet on. Open will win, no doubt about it. I'm so sure I've voted with my wallet. I'll soon start contributing to their server source. Can I get you to promise you won't ever use any of my code since the other team is committed to keeping their project open? Good luck, stay private, keep inventing a new if similar game, lets compare notes in a year, I believe in open source and the power of many, even if not always going in the same direction over a few folks worried about "splintering" and "losing control", I'll use the Linux as an example to make my case, Spacegrrrl
  11. Here is a crazy way to prove me wrong. Check in the current stable tree to the SVN. No head bashing required. Bring back the API reference Wiki. Add back the "mission statement" that the project once had on its website committing to this being an "open" project. I've long since given up on the idea of the content database every really being shared again, but I still have a crazy optomistic hope the server source will somehow become open again. Spacegrrrl
  12. And just to provide a LoL to this, the other project's site seems to be very much crashed. So could very well be a huge non-issue. :-) Spacegrrrl
  13. Using your logic no open source project could ever succeed because all those other interested developers "splinter" the effort. This is just a case of some folks not knowing how to play well with others and having "control" issues. My case to prove my point are the other server emulator projects that have been very successful by being very OPEN. How on earth do they continue to grow and be healthy if you have to close the project? I have pointed this out repeatedly and I have yet to see anyone refute my point? How do they succeed and stay open? Anyone?? Spacegrrrl
  14. How does stoping the release of the server source "protect" the community? This project has been the work of a lot of folks, some no longer active in the project. Has everyone that contributed to the server code agreed to closing the project to "protect" the community? I expect not. I don't even know where to begin to explain how what you are doing now violates the spirit (and possibly even the license that the initial development was shared under) of an open source project and how this is now inconsistent with the intentions of this project when it was begun. So I would also point out that at the time the folks that "took" "your" data were actually part of your team and could probably make the case they has much right to is as you claim to. Basically somehow or other there were some personal issues that caused someone that was once "you" to pick up their toys and leave. This isn't a case of someone "stealing" anything. It was a dispute about how to better the future of the project that for whatever reason couldn't be resolved. In the end I think whoever stays the most "open" and "inclusive" of the greater community will win in the end (if there is anything you could call 'winning"). Spacegrrrl
  15. No check-in in 94 days seems pretty "closed". But I hope there is some refresh at some point planned. Spacegrrrl
  16. After some private messages with one of the developers where it became clear this is no longer an open source project (was this ever done under a GPL license I wonder). I specifically asked for a clear statement from the team regarding where they believed the IP boundaries were and specifically that they state they are no longer treating this as an open source project. Again, I doubt that many folks would care, they just want to play and like that the server is coming along as well as it is, but for a few of us, particularly some of us that have followed this from the earliest days of cracking the keys for the encryption with a large group effort we'd like it clearly stated this is now a "closed" project as for many of us the open nature of the project was key to our support. I wonder if any of the earlier developers, many who have left over time that started this under the impression this was an open project would have opinions on a "closed" project using their "open" contribution without their consent. Spacegrrrl
  17. I would point out the soource code "was" open source till the splinter. The content at that point had already been "closed" and it took a team member with access to the private databases to get the current content (at the time of the splinter) This project has decided to no longer share any server source work past the point the rift occured. You can verify this with the SVN change histories (I had this pointed out to me by one of the folks on the development team). This was done so the "other" effort could not benefit from the continung improvements the folks committed to developing for this efort have made. I think that is the saddest result of this other effort. So everyone should realize this is no longer an "open source" project. From a content view it has been closed for some time and now from a server code perspective it is also now a closed project. Interestingly enough I think the other project intends to keep their source open and available as well as their content. Of course if they don't have a team to move their efforts forward it won't matter much. The majority of the player base in this project probably could care less in the end, but its important to note that the initial "truly open vision" that inspired a lot of work that this project now depends has been kicked to the curb. I definitely believe that a persons untimately owns their own work product so I can't make a case for any of the core content or development team doing anything other than what they want with their eforts. I would say however, there is a strong case to be made for the benefits of "open" projects that the current team approach will now preclude. No one should assume anyone is doing any of these efforts to make some money. In fact should there ever seem to be something identifiable as "revenue" beyond what is required to suppport the essential infrastructure for this effort they set themselves up to be shut down by EA. This sort of reverse engineering effort only can exist legally if remains "educational" and "non-profit" in nature. I'm actually worried that the gradual "closing" of this project also may make it an easier target for legal attacks down the road. Staying totally open has been a key part of the stratgies for keeping other server emulation efforts alive. On even a practical basis if it is left truly open it likely means the source and content is "all over the place" and pretty much impossible to eliminate entirely. Now you definitely could see a scenario where EA walks in, forces the limited number of people that actually have access to the latest coded and content to "cease and desist" and this project is dead in the water. Since the actual number of folks this project can expect to attract in terms of active player bases will remain low enough (in the context of what EA would consider of interest in business terms) I doubt they'd bother to assign any resource to limit or closing this project down. So my guess is this project will continue to move forward, develop some interesting content, develop more code that approaches the experience E&B provided before it dies and has a reasonable bright future providing some fun gaming for hundreds of players. To everyone that has helped make that happen I say "good job", even though I wished the project remained true to the initial spirit of openness that it once had. Spacegrrrl
  18. The Ice fields and the shield look to be in very different locations. At this point, sometime down the road I just hope I'll enjoy nommos watching and my hold will have a new nommos plusie..... :-) Please realize I do appreciate the work you folks put in, just this was one of my favorite places and I've been waiting for the day I can say its back. SAVE THE NOMMOS!!! Spacegrrrl
  19. So it wasn't that hard to see what was there, a simple google of "aganju system map" produced this: http://www.earthandbeyond.ca/sectormap/aganju.html That map doesn't show the ice (surrounded forgotten point, nommos point and lost point, where you also found the nommos herds) or the ore locarions (out to the west below planet in a couple of groups and along the chain of points near the giant shiled thing being built). There was also ore between the HEAL ship and nommos point as well as towards the planet between the station and the planet. I always found that location to be the most like to find hulks with the lvl 4 warp kaza thing. I hope you'll try and make the system as close in layout as the other systems are when compared to live. Aganju was a wonderful system and deserves the same repsect the rest of the systems have recived from the content development folks. SAVE THE NOMOS!! Spacegrrrl
  20. So don't put in so much ore, but don't totally change everything else about the system! With so much work put into so many other systems to get them "right" why did this system get treated so poorly? If someone just wanted to make their own idea of what a system should be do it in one of the "new" systems and don't ruin a major interesting system from the game before. SAVE THE NOMMOS!!! Spacegrrrl
  21. It doesn't matter how it ended up like it did, what is there is totally wrong on a lot of levels. The system was dominated by the shield being built, was definitely not so "Jenquia" and had a definite "exploited by the terrans" feel". Think about the whole "psi" in the mines storyline supported by lots of missions, the ship with a major NPC talking about the shield in a ship to the northeast of the statiom, a station like facility east of that with teran enforcers, again supported by missions, the regular stream of NPC miners coming back from the ice to the station (to the major ice and nommos herds to the west and northwest of the station and gate in), again with at least one related mission where you talked to a specific miner coming back to the station, the rescue a lost nommos hunter mission, the Nommos observers and even the chance to buy the silly "nommos plushie" from the greenpeace like NPC ship there. Where is any of that? As I terran I used to love sitting and watching the nommos herds using befriend to make them green to me. I'd be glad to draw you a map to get you somewhere close to what was there, the current sector is NOTHING like what was in game live. If you didn't know what the system actually looked like why didn't you ask for players that might have remember to help, so many of the other systems are so much closer to how they were. Why this one ended up so different is confusing to me. An awesome system that deserves better. Sigh, clearly no one that was ever there had any input into what was developed for now, too bad, it was an awesome place, now I fear forever to be lost in time. SAVE THE NOMMOS!!! Spacegrrrl
  22. Does your DB have more than one system? Could we get a copy of that one? Maybe the folks that want to set up a server could sort out the skills issue with that one and share that one among themselves. Spacegrrrl Spacegrrrl
  23. Instead of asking in game or a forum search, or the pretty comprehensive player produced databases and resources..... I sort of thought that discussion was had to an agreed to conclusion a while back and the decision was made to just trail the new content by some reasonable period to keep the "surprises" surprises. I'd link the topic but the discussion I think predated the forum crash. Well, not my call so I guess we'll take what we can get, again, thanks for any effort made to support folks intersted in exploring the inner workings of the server, Spacegrrl
  24. So my favorite place ever when E&B was live was 61-Cygni. I love the Nomos and the huge barrier and the roid fields that always seemed to have great hulks. I finally got to see the current Aganju and its quite a bit differen then when the game was live. I was wondering if this was just going to be a system that isn't intended to be made similar to how it was before. Just curious if I'll ever feel truly "home" again, Spacegrrl
  25. Just wondering why such a restricted DB release as compared to the previous DB release? That was basically a full DB trailing by a few months. Seems like there must be some aspects of content creation not present in just the single system. At any rate, the streamlined package you describe will be appreciated I am sure, as it definitely will let folks that want to fiddle around and learn more about the project do just that. I know I just finished putting together a new dev box and look forward to getting a look at the latest server code. So for that I say huge thanks in advance! Spacegrrrl
