1. The department of JBB (Jenquai Beam Bureau) has conducted a study, that 9 out of 10 Jenquai, use Beam related technology in or around their ships on a daily basis.  How will this effect beam product shock?  Will it take a hit?     On another note, Jenquai Defenders have been having a hard time using government issued beams.   More tonight when we hear what the sector security offices in the Vega system have to say about the matter.  xD
2. I just gated on my Seeker and my JE just followed him though.  This is great, but I'm guessing this means the multi-boxers are either being dealt with in another way or are now being given free rein.   What choice was made?  Being a player that plays 2 characters, this is a matter that I'd like to stay informed on.   PS.  Alowing me to gate with me JE is nice.  I'm probably not why its been put back in the way it was, but I thank you none the less.
3. If everyone is "Unlucky", then a re-evaluation of the % chance may be in order.
4. I thought it was great.  I play 2 characters.  I moved one to another account just so I can play both a Jenquai Explorer and a Jenquai Seeker.  This feature saved me a lot of Alt-Tab time when doing trade runs.   Now I have to alt-tab at every gate again?  Like getting a peace of cake and then having it taken away before you can eat it.
5. Channel cops are the main reason I only talk in guild or broadcast.  All other channels are closed.  If I need to buy something or ask a question I turn them on.  Then turn them off quickly after I get what I need.  General chat should be general chat.  I never will understand why people try to dictate what others are talking about in a general chat channel.     Instead of asking people to take their conversations to another channel, (Witch wouldn't make any sense at all do to the fact its a "General" conversation on the general channel)  I would suggest, if you do not want to see people having a conversation about things you are not interested in on the general channel, then YOU should leave the general channel.    I would hope I'm not the only one with such logical thinking.  However, I make no attempt to reach out to the community ingame ever, do to channel cops.  So now it is not my concern.  The only community I'm concerned with is my guild.  We talk about whatever we want without worrying about a GM or Dev telling us to take it else ware.       Its annoying, its rude, and its a self defeating hurtle to an online community.
6. I beta tested the game from Phase 4 to live.  Then I played all the way up to the last moment the server was shut down.  I even remember talking to a Dev that night that logged on and caught me on my JE.  It was years ago so I cannot remember the whole conversation, but they did say it was a shame the servers were going down.   I was the second officer in Search for Intelligent Life (SIL) under a guy called SilverKiwi.  (Andromeda server)   Then I found this great place.  Remade my JE.  And I dragged all my friends back with me.  I'm now the leader of a remade Search for Intelligent Life.
7. Warning:  Some parts have adult language do to my friends being drunk.  If you are to young, innocent, or have no sense of humor, do not watch.   Other then that, I believe the video captures everything good about this emulator.  Friends, fun, nostalgia, sci-fi.  Its also free advertising.   lol  Enjoy.
8. There used to be a button on the front page that linked to download and install instructions. Where is that? And more important for now.. Where do I tell my friend to go to start playing?
9. I'm so happy. Just found my old E&B T-shirts, mousepads, and caps. I think I may frame the mousepads. Just wanted to share the victory feeling with people here that would understand. Everyone I know is always like, "What is this Earth & Beyond game your always talking about?" /facepalm
10.
New Player channel or General channel? LOL I was always told that General was for OOC and not the New Player channel. Me thinks the GM was confused. But maybe it's just me.
It was General. I turned off my New Players channel long ago, for the same reason. The Moderation. Now they are both off. I have my guild and my personal friends on my voice chat, so I do not need the General channel or the any other channel. However, it seems that at least some of the staff are not comfortable with a thriving free community. It was disappointing, but I do not wish to get banned or anything, so this is all I will say on the matter.
11. General chat is dead most of the time. I never see anything said in the channel. Whenever I am online I normally do not even attempt to say anything in any channel of this E&B Emulator. I have my own Ventrilo server where all my friends meet and talk to each other. Yesterday, after hours of channel silence in General chat, someone proclaims their love of E&B's music. Then another player agrees but says that SWTOR has better music, but that's still great because E&B is so old and it's still 2nd best. Then another player jokes about the sound on the old 2600 Atari. Well, I love E&B, SWTOR, and the 2600 Atari. I also love music, game ambiance, and game design. On this rare occasion, I felt the conversation was interesting enough to contribute and I expressed my fond memories of the 2600. Several others started reminiscing about it and then the NES and the SNES. Another player says they are a Sega fan. So I mention one of the Sega Genesis games I used to play at a friends house and ask if he has heard of it. Finally I'm chatting with the community and enjoying it. Then (I'm guessing) two members of this E&B Emu GM staff tell us to take the conversation to another channel and that we can only talk about E&B in the general channel. I tell them that I was unaware that General chat only means E&B topics only. I thought that General chat means General chat. Several others also express their unhappiness with this arbitrary ruling. One even says that they were displeased with how the channels are moderated so strictly. The GM then says that we can dislike it all we want but those are the rules. I tell him that I am sorry, and that I am also sorry for joining a conversation in the General chat at all. No one said anything in the channel for the next 2 hours and probably longer, but I logged out after that time. The GM told me that if I had a complaint to make, make it on the forums. So here I am. I'm here to complain I guess. I do not approve of how the GM handled the situation. He was very aggressive about it. I do not recall what he said word for word, but my first and last thought of him was that he was very arrogant. If he was enforcing a rule, then he could have done it with more tact. Also this makes me question the rule itself. Perhaps it should be removed. For once I felt a connection with the community and there was some life in the channel, then the staff killed it. I no longer wish to talk in the chat if I have to constantly worry about disciplinary action or over moderation. I can understand if it were offensive language, but everyone seemed to be enjoying the conversation save for the staff members. I thought MMO's were social games. Perhaps this Emu (As the rules stand now) do not fit the bill. I suppose I will just stick to Ventrilo and guild chat from now on. Play it safe.
12. This may help me to FINALLY get some of my friends to try this. Will this installer make it easy for Windows XP and Windows 7 users alike?
(everything will be set as admin for those pesky Vista/Win7 systems too)
Just saw that.
13. This is some gameplay video I took. No music added to the video, no shooting only the most exciting things for glamour. This is the game how it is. I just want my friends and anyone that sees the video to see what this game is like for real. And where to go to play it. 14.
Ah the good ol IRC chats with DEVs... Niobe, Ceredith, Klaata, Taliskar, Hutch, Devon.... The best was attacking Taliskar when he decided to show for his beatings with all the item stuff! And yes in person Niobe had the hyper active giggles from all the candy!
I hope the Devs for the Emu check this out if they haven't seen it. Theres a lot of info in that chat.
15. http://classic-web.archive.org/web/20040523131122/www.ebportal.com/forum/topic/49/15337 http://classic-web.archive.org/web/20040512230543/www.ebportal.com/forum/topic/49/15200 VERY interesting read if you have the time and passion for E&B as I do. Pages may load VERY slow. Worth the wait. Heres some clips from the IRC chat. <Cerdith> We had a big huge wonderful story ... you got like 40 pages of excerpts from it. <Cerdith> We started with that ... <Cerdith> (But it was closer to 200) <Cerdith> And we thought, ... very cool, where does the game story start? Cause that determines what is backstory and what is to come in the evolution of the story in game. <Cerdith> And that starting point changed over and over ... before the content designers were ever hired ... <Cerdith> Because there is/was a lot of pressure from different groups within the company. <Cerdith> So, for instance ... one group might think the game is better if it starts with a war <Cerdith> Another group might think it's better if it starts with tension ... but not outright hostility ... <Cerdith> Another group might think players will be more engaged and interested in "defending" something if they've had time to make it their own... <Cerdith> So, somewhere well above your average designer or even producer ... these debates will rage. <Cerdith> In the meantime you have a huge huge document with lots of scope ... <Cerdith> Enough in there for lots of games ... <Cerdith> And someone important enough makes a decision and says ... it starts THERE. <Cerdith> And then content starts figuring out what that means. What is in the game at launch, what is the story from then on... <Cerdith> Community starts to say .. "cool we can post backstory" <Cerdith> And then... WHAM! some other importnant person says ... Wait.. no, change it. <Cerdith> And then, we can't post anything, cause ... what if we post something that never happened, or is going to happen? You want to talk circular time? <Cerdith> So ... now, we have a shipping deadline, right? Everyone understands games are an industry. <Cerdith> There's a rate at which money is being burned in development <Cerdith> And there's a budget <Cerdith> So "ship the game" is something that becomes paramount. <Cerdith> People are doing huge hours ... and then bam! We have to reduce scope... reduce scope... <Cerdith> So, where did the planets and systems go? <Cerdith> Well, they got scope reduced. <Cerdith> Why weren't they mentioned? <Cerdith> Cuase we hoped to add them in later <Cerdith> And if we mentioned them, we coudn't. <Cerdith> Or ... worse, if we mentioned them, we'd be told we promised to put them in <Cerdith> And crucified for not doing so. <Cerdith> Right? <Cerdith> So, now we launch ... <Cerdith> And we're scrambling to fix stuff ... <Cerdith> And "pressure" is coming from a lot of place, including players ... but also within the company ... <Cerdith> So we add all sorts of stuff ... PVP and new skills ... <Cerdith> Do we want to do the story? Yup. <Cerdith> But, priorities aren't always set by the dev team. <Cerdith> (And thats about as much as I can say there)
16.
culled from another thread and found this amusing. way old school EnB
That reminds me. I still have a box upstares, still FULL of Earth & Beyond T-shirts, Mouse pads, Ball caps, and Demo disks. I need to drag all that stuff out. I still have my phase 4 beta CD with the old player ship models on it. Ok man.. you just took me back. Wow. lol
17.
Yup they are a greedy conglomerate of acquisitions. EA has bought several other things that the public has never even seen. Simple example like above with C&C, they've purchased company's/games/coding out from others just for the engine itself and tossed the game into their Vaults never to be seen/heard from. Funny when I visited EA HQ and went into "The Vault" all the stuff over the years they have collected and locked away. Kinda funny in the scope of things now looking back, to them EnB was just another stepping stone/floor mat for them to wipe their feet on. Shame as even when offered a couple million for EnB, they still refused...
Has anyone tried to find someone in EA to ask questions about the present possibility to buy the E&B title? What steps would one have to take? Who do I email or call in the EA company that can give informed answers about buying the game rights from the company? It would be interesting to see if they would be willing to sell it now, and if they are, how much would they be asking for it? It would be very nice if my donation money would be put into a fund for letting the community buy the game from the company. Instead of walking on a sheet of thin ice, why not open some kind of negotiations to own the title and have the freedom to do with it as we please. Like, release it as freeware to the community that helped buy it. Or some heroic thing like that. Just pondering with optimistism.
18. I know to some this may sound like sacrilege, but you may be able to better save the game if you considered micro transactions to buy boosters or some ingame items for donations. I play on a Classic World of Warcraft server thats great fun that sells ingame items to pay for their server. Before the I get put up on the cross for mentioning it, have a look at their operation here. http://vanillagaming.org/ Take some time to see how they run donations if your interested. Even voting for the server to gain it publicity on another site can land members a few ingame gold. I will start donating next payday no matter what. I don't want to lose E&B again. I played the original from phase 4 beta to the day the servers were turned off. To the very last minute. This game is to good to let slip away forever. Just trying to help.
19. I beta tested E&B back in the day. I played all the way up to the last day the server was up. I was online when I was forced off when the server shut down. I had years of great memories in E&B and I am SO GLAD and thankful its back. After E&B shut down, I had nowhere to go. I was an internet refuge! Reluctantly I went to other MMOs looking for a new home. I ended up playing WWII Online, Planetside, EVE online, World of Warcraft, City of Heroes, City of Villains, Vendetta online, Lord of the Rings online, Star Wars Galaxies, the list goes on. I liked many of them, but never found them to be my home as E&B was. I miss my Founders Federation tags, but you will never hear me complain about this Emu. I remember live, and this Emu is BETTER! Not only is it more complete and seems more stable(Used to play on 56k), but the community here from the players to the Devs seem 100 times more helpful, nice, and enthusiastic about the game. This Emu is better then the original E&B do to the fact that it has something that many games don't. Its a game put together by gamers, for gamers.
