  1. Thanks for the info Karu.   Should make the Wireshark logs a bit easier to read, now that I can ignore that.   Have to put it down to an unfortunate coincidence that my gate/dock hangs began around the time the NIC was changed in the Web server...   Back to the investigations!
  2. That's what I thought actually...   I've been running some Wireshark traces to try and track down the problem, and there is some http traffic that seems - I think - to be looking after logon authentication... Or something..? Usually pops up after a (successful) gate. I guess there must be some link between the Web and Game servers.   Reads like Game traffic runs to 74.208.192.215... And Web traffic to 74.208.132.71.   Client certainly seems to be checking in with the web server during normal Gameplay though.   Of course, if the web server is plugged into the same switch as the game server, could also be some knock-on effect there with the new NIC.   Still haven't given up on it being something at my end; but the issues I've got that are making the Game near-unplayable did kick in on exactly the same day as the new NIC in the Web Server was announced.
  3. Swordplay: I shouldn't be thinking about giving up. Remember that these guys work for free... Bit of patience might see you back up and running.   I am fairly confident that it's an issue on the server-side... Maybe the wrong NIC speed or some-such on that new Net' card.   I've gone from six months of absolutely rock solid, lag-free, utterly infrequent gate/dock hangs... To only being able to manage 1 or 2 gates/docks before having to restart.   That's on 3 different computers, 2 of which haven't been touched for a few weeks, and (the main one) with rolled-back WSUS updates.   And the issue started precisely at the time that it was reported that the network card was replaced.   So if the Team aren't rushing to try and help you straighten out your PC, consider that it may not be an issue with your machine; and it is something at the back end that may have to be changed, as and when.   With all that said...   I am wondering why the issue isn't more widespread, if my diagnosis is correct. Would have thought it would be affecting more users than just a handful.   Wonder if it's to do with the network cards *WE* are using, that suddenly don't like the new one on the server side. I'm using a Broadcom NetLink Gigabit Ethernet...    Or maybe the speed of our broadband connection (I'm 170mbps down and 10mbps up) is overwhelming the new NIC..?   Or (finally...) we're both using 64-bit Windows 7... Could be a link there..?   Imma gonna keep tinkering around with my set-up. Will let you know if I make any progress.
  4.   Umm... Might have created some unintended knock-on effects...   Since precisely the point at which you resolved the faulty NIC issue, my docking and gating hangs have gone from 1 out of 100 docks/gates, to around 5 out of every 6.   Everything else is peachy... Can farm all day long in a sector, or build Agrippa items until I run out of Duplium Ore... But as soon as I start gating or docking... Things get very frustrating.   May not be the only person experiencing this:   https://forum.enb-emulator.com/index.php?/topic/11354-game-freezing-at-gates/
  5. Yup. I've had the same problem since around the 14th July as well.   Happens most times I gate or dock... Happens on any account I try... And happens on all 3 computers that I variously play the Game on.   Fairly sure it isn't a Windows Update thng, as I have uninstalled a batch of updates that were installed on one PC on Thursday evening - 24 hours after the problem started.   It is also happening on a machine I haven't switched on for 4 weeks (and which was working fine then), and which definitely hasn't had any Windows Updates applied recently.   Have previously had four months of trouble-free gating and docking, even when multi-boxing. Since about mid-week this week, 3 gates/docks out of every 4 results in a hang.   Not sure if this is relevant/helpful, but when I've previously had the (very) occasional hang whilst gating or docking, when I've relogged, my ship has always been (somewhere) in the sector I was gating or docking *FROM*. But with these hands, when I log back on, my craft is always either in the station I was trying to dock into; or sitting immediately outside the station of the sector I was gating into.   Umm... Very conscious that this coincides with a post made by ArthurDent in the "Net-7 News" forum:     Posted 15 July 2015 - 11:11 PM Hi everyone.   The last week or so, we have had some server issues which ultimately caused a couple of long outages for Net-7. (yes, that's why the websites were down yesterday, as well as TS)   The issue was traced to a faulty NIC and has hopefully been resolved. Yay !!!   ***   Don't know if that's coincidental or not...
  6. Not that I know of... Or none that are current, leastways.   There's always the Net-7 Wiki available, if you fancy taking the job on.  ^_^
  7. IIRC, Iron Vulture things (think that's what they're called...) down by the Destroyed Mining Facility in Odin Rex are a comfortable levelling spot for a cl22 TE.   Good numbers of mobs, steady respawn rate, shouldn't overwhelm a stand-offish TE, and the loot is reasonable.
  8. I think you are broadly on the money Mattsacre, with regards the PS.   But just to speak up a little in defense of my first (and still favourite) class:   I nearly always use my PS as the Group Leader (I'm a Multi-Boxer, I'm afraid...), because of the combination of his scan range and big shields. Can't use a JE as GL, because one hit on her paper-thin shields and the group formation is in disarray... And my PW's and TE's can barely see past the end of their PLs and MLs..!   In terms of spotting a target at distance, and allowing other group members to "target this group member's target", *AND* staying alive long enough for one of the big guns to pick up the aggro... Can't beat a PS!   Also, noob question:   What's this "HoT" you keep referring to?
  9. I definitely would not return if EA turned the servers back on.   Everything that EA ever did (and this is an observation, not a criticism) with EnB was motivated by money, and it always felt that way, right up to the motivation for turning the servers off.   By contrast, the guys running this Emulator are motivated by love; by the love of the Game. And I feel that every second I spend playing it.   There is no contest.
  10. Well... As luck would have it...   When I turned up at the Corporal Ableson Nav-Point last night, whilst there was no sign of Ableson... But there were *4* (count 'em!) Repair Books just floating in space..!   Nabbed 1 each on my PS and JE, dismantled them both down to the Bang Stick; then went back and fetched the other two.   Did fail to recover the Bang Stick on one JE dismantle, so had to go back and wait for Ableson (not too long...).   But was ultimately able to complete the mission for both toons last night!!   JE is now the proud possessor of a White Lightning (I know, I know... But she's my Taxi, and she's already on de-buffing duty with her Chimaera); and my PS now is equally proudly sporting a Chilli Popper..!   Thanks for all your assistance chaps.   :)
  11. Yup. Analysed the Book all the way down to its component parts already (on both toons)...   I'm at the Small Platinum Sheet stage... So well past the Analyze Repair Toolkit bit...   Still no option to buy additional books from Junior.   ...   I wonder if it is because I had already analysed the Repair Book (down to its raw comps) *BEFORE* I started the mission chain..? So I never actually had to do the "Analyze Repair Toolkit" bit... 'Cos I'd already done it..??
  12. That sounds promising..! Thanks Syber.   Just one question about the "Once Junior Malik offers them...":   At what point can I expect that to happen?!
  13. I'm currently pushing my PS and JE towards the goodies available at the end of this Mission.   1) Ground up their faction with a bit of EarthCorps Genocide - lot of fun, and good loot earnings   2) Lots of whizzing around the Galaxy's sectors gathering the "Shopping" required for the Mission Chain (thanks RenoJD and Daath!)   3) And am enjoying having to juggle all the various bits and pieces that are required to refine whatever is next needed to progress to the next step.   But...   Those flippin' Repair Books..!   I mean... Really? Can only get them one at a time from a single MOB on a 1-hour respawn?   I keep returning to Junior Malik to see if he has suddenly started offering them (can't recall getting any from him, at any point...), but only to be disappointed.   Am I missing a trick here?
  14. Thanks for this chaps. Very timely... Gearing up to do this very mission.   Couple of questions, which you might be able to answer:   The Wiki states that a minimum +3000 Bogeril Faction is required to start this mission. Is that still the case?   And if so: what's the easiest/quickest way to raise Bogey Faction?
  15.   Heh. Well... You can't please All of the People, All of the Time...   :P
  16. Yup. Even better.   Would imagine: also slightly easier to develop and implement...
  17. Not sure if previously considered, or even possible, but...   Would there be anyway to have an element/function on the Net-7 Portal that could convert ammunition components to ammo stacks..?   Ammo-building is the *ONLY* element of the Game that I still find a bit of a grind; compared to the large amounts of grinding I was forced to do in Live... And if there were any way of removing this last little fly in the ointment, I'd be in full Bliss-Mode.   Wouldn't want to speculate (much less suggest) how such a feature might work on a technical basis... But would argue that it wouldn't have an unbalancing effect on the Game.   Plus: I could then build my ammo stacks whilst I am at work.
  18. Umm...   I picked up a BoS from the Bison for my JE... About six weeks ago.   Rare drop though... I usually zap the Bison as the first hit on my daily patrol of the Universe... (second hit = Raman the Polisher)... So that'll be at least one Bison kill, almost every day, for the last 3 months: only a single BoS drop.   But it *IS* dropping.   And the spawn rate on the Bison seems comfortably regular - there's nearly always a Bison there when I visit, and I know it's a popular target.   Seem to recall from Live that the BoS would also occasionally drop from MOBs other than the Bison... Not sure if that is still (or ever was) the case though.
  19. Phew! Thanks for the response Terrell... Glad I wasn't missing any steps!   Little more Chavez-Genocide and my Gang will soon be staking its turf out in BBW..!
  20.   Umm... Apologies for asking such an obviously naive question (and for resurrecting an old thread), but...   Is it still the case that BBW/Paramis access only require -1999 or better RD faction..?   'Cos I've a couple of my crew whose faction is better than -1999 (and everything RD is yellow to them), but still no "Gate" icon appears to gate through to BBW.   Is there another step required to get a BBW passport..?   Thanks in advance.
  21. I think the critical point in the OP's suggestion is the addition of another skill-set in order to maintain the race-specific advantage of the weapon-sets.   In which case... I'm not sure how this differs from each race being able to use every weapon-set at L8, and only their race's specialty  at L9?   I do understand the intent of the OP's suggestion... But I do think it already exists... *IF* the suggestion is that there will still be some edge-advantage for each race with each weapon-set.   Totally see the fun in hooking up a PW with 6 x L8 beams... Those beams are never going to be as good as a JD's L9 beams... So WTH: have fun with the L8 beams; but remount the L9 PL's when it's time to get back to work!   If the suggestion were to eliminate all Race:Weapon-Set affinity... Then obviously everyone (and I mean *EVERYONE*) would just use a PW, because of the 6 weapon mounts. But that isn't the suggestion... It is to maintain race-superiority in each weapon-set... Just nudge things up a bit.   Wouldn't see this as a priority, given that everyone already has the facility to go to L8 in their non-Race specialist weapons.   But nice to see the Creative Juices flowing!
  22. I was playing in 2012... Up until the September reset...    And I've just started playing again....   And don't... Seem... To... Be... Able... To... Stop... Playing..!!   Praise be to the Resurrectors!   :D
  23. Pakkrat, your first post in this thread is an *EPIC* read!   I lived and breathed every word.   Not just the technical detail about being a Sentinel, but the grace with which you use the English language.   The Sentinel was my first character, and was the character I was singed off with, at Mars Beta, when the Plug Was Pulled.   Absolutely loved your superbly written piece.   Peace,   Holyman
