[/quote] well the emulator to its credit follows ALL THE RULES on how emulators are supposed to function...ie we keep kudo's to EA on the startup logo etc on them orig developing the game...we are non-profit ie all $$ go for equip/inet services etc for keeping the abandonware game up for us hobby type users all the dots are there and t's are crossed so we are legit (you can imagine we really really want to be legit under the law in how we run this for fun abandonware non profit project (not that it has anything to do with EA being a giant corp or anywthing ....er anyway) so i very likely COULD be wrong here but such things as making travel mugs and t-shirts and models and micro transactions in game for rank etc features....well imho i think that prob would be pushing it ... right now all is transparent and all $$ go for things to keep the game up or get the game where it was or hardware etc....so no fat in the system for minimal needed to actually do the goal of an emulator...ie keep the game up and playable when abandoned...thus the kudo's to EA for their part in dev of game on logon screen and the rest of how it is setup here now by all means if i'm incorrect and others can explain this more fully feel free i'd really like to be incorrect and get a t-shirt...but i think that is where it stands right now we are really really spot on the rules for such endeavors as an emulator don't want to push it too far but hey things change maybe i'm wrong those more informed then myself (practially anyone) can chime in my 2c worth Searing

hmmm..... my evil compaq n800v (a laptop to be avoided at all costs ...was hard for me to do in that someone gave it too me for free....yikes...it was a cursed object thats why it was free (duh!) well....i'm not sure either my evil laptop would represent evil older brother who just pi**es in the sandbox to activate the ammonia of the cat poop occasionally (and of course with all the cat poop teinbau has no idea where in the sand box it is at nor how pi**ing in that particular place would make him clean the whole sandbox ..wasting time on searing fix'es) or hmmmm maybe the pis**ng in the sandbox could represent those who sought control of the project and then went and made their own classic sandbox but alas....when in kindergarden people in sandboxes tend to "have time outs" on anything representing control and the word "classic" (ie established, conventional, and static) ..... if you want the true "utopia" of a sandbox you need a little bit of ...whimsy, irrelevance, dorkyness and all around just a bit of unreality (to basically rebuild a mmorpg that the major game corp in the world walked away from as "too irrelevant" at least to them....sensible people will play the "Simm's online" and re-live in virtual reality their suburban existance when not in their suburban existance...and pay 19.95/m to do so..... so being too dumb ...and unpaid....and too distracted to see it was impossible ...we now have the utopia of the EnB Sandbox ...(dang riddick spit out the cat poop) er ...or our somewhat "flawed" version of such (best not to look too close.....i'd say the best way to look at our EnB Utopia sandbox is 4 blocks away from a high tree (kills smell of cat poop) with one eye closed and squinting (too obscure the kindergarden fight club brawling ...and plug'ing your ears to all the unending chants' of we want the sandbox done NOW and holding of breath till they topple over) ah crap someone let the beta's in to the sandbox (prissy little girls) always whining about what is broken....we never did figure out what Cdel does for the project he just sits on the lp gas tank near the sandbox mumbling to himself making a picture frame with his fingers and waving his arms around)...come to think of it prob better to be on the lp gas tank away from the smell of cat pi**) and look at it from a distance he might be on to something ....and what he is collecting pennies from people to 'view' the sandbox and showing them a secret handshake to get in ...crap he is even letting "girls" in grrrrr anyway ....for a project that that was out in 2002 ...killed in 2004...source code either burned or buried under 10000 tons of EA headquarters.......and spirited back to life by some kinda coding voodoo by davidr99 and tienbau on a whim (had to be a whim i mean how old where you davidr99 when you decided to take this task on ...15yrs (and no that is not a joke).... hey.....what do i know ..i only get $$ 0 $$ you'll have to ask the others that make $$$$$ 0 $$$$$$ on this kinda thing ..to me it works as an "EnB Sandbox" but then again what do i know i went from Dev to GM (hits head with palm duh!) don't let the sand get in your shorts (wanders over grabs riddick sticks garden hose in mouth to wash out cat poop) my 2c worth Searing

In my humble opinion this is exactly how the project works from a Kindergarden perspective (I know kinda a push to get to that level but we can do it) Enb Sandbox First ..... Davidr99 and Tienbau ...its their Sandbox .....Teinbau likes to break the sandbox occasionally and toss the sand around...saying it is not structurally sound or the sandbox he wants and then Davidr99 has to get all the Devs together in some manner and put the Sandbox back together...they usually do this on regular basis...4 or 5 times for fun. Second..... The various Devs are in charge of figuring out where the Dump Trucks go.....who gets the Shovels...and placement of Sand Pails....there never seems to be enough of these for everyone so they make do with coffee cans or pop cans or whatever else they can come with ...but they seem kinda rushed all the time...never enough toys everyone. Third...... The GM's are in charge of picking up Cat Poop..the sandbox is often overrun by neighborhood cats using the sandbox for a litter box....so we run around picking up the cat poop and dead birds or other stuff before the users either eat the cat poop or throw the cat poop at each other....generally this then digresses into the EnB version of kindergarden Fight club....never enough Gm's in the sandbox. Fourth..... The Users are the ones who play in the Sandbox and attempt with much enthusiasm to eat the cat poop or throw at it each other or fight over the dump trucks and sand pails.... they generally say it is a wonderful sandbox and really don't mind the occaisonal cat poop or pail disappearing....but...keep talking excitedly about the bigger better sandbox that tienbau/davidr99 and the devs and other staff have planned...they also get more then excited when Santa comes to the EnB Sandbox...but thats another story Fifth.... Donors pay for the sandbox they can be anyone from users to devs to old westwood adults who like and miss the sandbox and so support this ....like most kids that use the sandbox such issues rarely cross their minds till they run out of buckets or shovels or the cat poop gets too thick.... Anyway all is as it should be in the project IMHO if we just keep the above in mind.....thru all the wrangling and cat poop etc ..the important thing is the EnB Sandbox continues. my 2c worth Searing

don't know if this has any value but some people are having probs so you prob are not alone i had a guy in teamspeak say that he was running ventrillo and then tried game w/o and it cleared up so anything that adds bandwith i'd shut it down other then that ...that is the only NEW thing i've heard it is being looked at if that is any comfort searing

just a small note on the win 7 stuff it seems that 1/2 of win 7 types the install works fine w/o compatiblity mode and on the other 1/2 they have to toggle it not sure why that is but some installs take and some you need to tweak it via compatiblity mode ..so those who have the game working w/o it prob don't have to worry about this tweak as to the question above i assume you did force update and that kinda thing also some people have to toggle local cert box on thats all this dumb GM knows on the topic get a hold of Cdel he can steer you to the right tweak and remember we are a stress test not even alpha yet (still shaking out stuff like this) but the game is playable for the most part my 2c worth searing gm

er ..too late i'm a GM sorta am a frigging cop don't ya know well i can /mute them till they cool off or whatever my only choice at this time is to /kick player looking for some other option for the verbally challenged don't ya know Searing

maybe i'm behind the curve but is their an /ignore command in game (ie you don't want /t's from certain toons) and i'd like to see a /mute command for gm's ie someone swears etc in channel i can /kick them could just have the option to /mute them (ie they can only contact staff) prob the mute command don't need to be in open forums here *but for those who are concerned as you see here we are considering it* my 2c worth Searing

You might want to consider adding starship creator to the file downloads section with a brief note on the reset classes or whatever the line is to unleash the new classes in game...just my view Searing

Not much to say they were pushing some improvements after testing them on dev server worked fine there did not take on the play server ...they will get to it sunday am thou it may be late am in that they were up late sometimes even testing on dev server does not always clear a path Searing

They tried to add some improvements to the game and something unexpected came up. the coders had to crash they will try to get to it sunday am we can't do an automatic reboot thing or we can't tell what is working vs not working w/o a look over ...also could cause wide spread damage if not looked at first (the code that is) Searing GM

Just as a side note you've prob already done this in your launcher update is i run Win7 i've never had to run it in xp comptiblity mode or any of that worked just fine out of the box but a month ago i was asking why xp ver has the proxy sort option and my win 7 ver did not well the launcher was not updating but working just fine on my end so i did a force update got me to thinking besides not sure why the above happened i was also talking to other win7 users and a lot of them have to run the launcher in xp compatiblity mode so besides figuring out why my launcher did not update above my suggetion would be under help have a box Win 7 users and just point out in a dialog box something like "If your Win 7 install did not work make sure you are running in Admin Mode...you can also run the game in XP compatblity mode and directions for a force update to get around all that I don't program so am not sure about what exactly would work the best but a dialog box telling them about xp compatiblity mode, admin access and or try a force update might help when they run to check the help area again just a thought but did not know that other Win7 users had to run in XP compatible mode ..did know about the admin mode but not sure a newbie would anyway again my 2c worth prob all this has been discussed before and already in the mix just thought it was funny that my updates all worked fine etc the game never gave me a problem but the launcher front end never changed to match w/the box for the proxy sort or whatever the box is ....heh again my 2c worth keep up the good work (and yes i'm impressed the site did not go boom into the nite like a year ago) searing

i understand it is just the uninformed out there...... maybe call it pre-alpha next release or something make a big deal out of the "hopefully" going to alpha in 3 months hopefully something like that..just need to get the newbies off this kick where they get in the game it plays better then most emul or other alpha games and the server is way stable mostly so i'm getting newbies and frustration from them in "the game plays so well they just assume it is at least alpha actually any time this issue has come up they really assume it is full beta and st4 is some kinda stress test number along that process......all this is prob because of the 'other' games stuff out there that call themselves alpha and in the true server sense are not ...thus we look better because the others jump the gone in calling themselves alpha or beta or ver 1.0 (sto comes to mind) when 5yrs ago the coding community would have laughed at them doing so as for the button did not know either that was in the works also just another thougtht prob a dumb one but i'd like to see a link on the launcher to joining teamspeak a button that walks people thru it i know it is hokey..but if there was a button on launcher saying "add teamspeak" or some such and if nothing else a dialog box came up saying Team speak allows chat in game follow the link ...well the newbies would prob flow there a lot of them have no idea what TS is and assume it is for devs just part of the process i guess we are gonna get a lot more people that are newbies on the site (it has be what 9 years since EnB went up right?) that get on the site maybe whine a bit about having to make an account download from the links and expect to be in the game in like 20 min to decide if they want to wipe what they just installed or keep it and play it ..i know that is my kinda process for checking stuff out anyway my 2c worth (all harshness removed just venting) Searing

Just a note i get a lot of people who just can't find the links so why is there not a big button on the main page saying 'download files" or some such the next page can have logon with the disclaimer you need to have an account on the site to use this feature or some such after that the 7 links show up i'd also like a formal or informal way (or bot/auto) to have these links checked at least 1x a week lastly as a gm i'm getting lots and lots of newbies who have not played game before (most of the old enb'ers at least know about us or been on i think) they always comment it is the "worst beta" they've ever play'd being non prorammer types they have now idea what stress test means so in my view call the dang thing alpha already most newbies at least know what alpha and beta mean as a gm its getting to be a pain defending a good stress test from a bad beta test happens a lot anyway my 2c worth searing
