  1. First awesome work with the site and the planner. Major A+ props, keep up the good work. Second, who wrote the original Stratic's character planner and do we have permission to modify and redistribute its javascript and HTML source code like we are apparently doing? Not trying to knock the project or anything. I just don't want to see some anal corporate legal team try and shut things down. If the planner is in the public domain or we have permission then great. But if we don't then we might want to make sure that the new planner doesn't count as a derivative work of the original. I know, daily dose of (hopefully unfounded) paranoia.
  2. Making any kind of web page that allows users to interact with an SQL database really isn't a good idea. Sure there are things you can do to mitigate this sort of thing but then you are playing a leapfrog game with the bad guys. And that's another large can of worms by itself.
  3. Alternatively you can get them by dismantling level 2 type C missile launchers.
  4. They remind me a bit of fancy fishing lures. But maybe its just me.
  5. Yeah I love E&B too. I just tend to give overly thorough answers to everything. Comes from being an engineer. Happy flying. Keep your towel with you at all times and most importantly, don't panic.
  6. So what are the nagifars and sults based on? The result of not eating enough fiber in one's diet?
  7. Even in live it wasn't really all that useful. Level 3 was typically enough so you could fix up another player's gear if needed. But generally if you were actually taking equipment damage due to taking hull damage you were usually dead long before any of your gear actually stopped working anyway so it didn't really matter.
  8. What does distributing a copyrighted work to random people without the consent of the copyright holder have to do with writing a game server program that happens to be compatible with an existing game client? I fail to see the connection here. Also the full game client was available as a free demo with EA's blessing. Although these install files are no longer hosted by EA they have been mirrored in several other places on the internet so they are still freely available for anyone to download. There is a thread in the forums with links to some of these locations.
  9. I think we are missing the fact that we are playing an MMO who's servers were shut down forever 6 years ago. Once again, "WE ARE PLAYING AN MMO WHO's SERVERS WERE SHUT DOWN FOREVER 6 YEARS AGO." Oh, and we are playing it for free without getting sued. And the dev team actually listens to player input in some fashion. They even give us progress updates. Anyone who played in live will remember that the EA devs were mystery people who we never heard from. All we ever got was the occasional vague update from a PR spokesperson which was usually little more than an attempt to candy coat the fact that the game was getting its budget cut once again. Think about that for a minute and then please say "thank you devs". Bugs, broken missions, messed up loot tables, screwed up raid bosses and all. I'm just happy to be plying the space lanes once again.
  10. And your forum avatar is from Eve Online. Oh the irony. But seriously, starter zone quests are supposed to be easy, simple, educational, and fun. In that order. If someone has to ask in chat what to do or join a group to finish a starter zone mission then the mission designer has made a serious error. Requiring those sorts of things later in the game is fine, heck I expect it. But the starter zones should be meant for people new to the game who are playing solo and don't have any outside resources of any kind to fall back on. Not other people to ask questions of, not money, not firepower, not friends to help them. Nothing. Think of a noob with a tiny gun strapped to their tiny ship who is still learning how the nav computer and game interface work. Even getting the correct end of said gun pointed at a mob might still be a bit challenging. Never mind free warping. If this person cannot solo every starter zone missions then the missions are designed wrong. Period. Put the challenge in the later missions and game content, not in the starter zones.
