    PvP

Daywolf, before you started the silliness of acid and bananas you actually had a reasonable voice in this thread, and it sounds like you have gaming, mod'ing, and dev experience to back that voice up. Speak up. I'd have to multiquote the heck out of this thread to get all the truth out, but that'd be impossible to read. Here goes... long, maybe hard to accept, tempting to delete/ban/flame, but please understand what I type below. I've used no caps, I'm not yelling, not angry, just explaining: There is already PvP in EnB, and it is among the dev team itself. Politics and infighting. We might as well carry it over into the game, too, right? Bear with me below on important PvP history... PvP has been an important topic for a long time, about 1.5 years maybe more, and wasvworked on, yes, but it wasn't Kenu or Tienbau. These 2 have done many other good things, but they have nothing to do (afaik) with the bad stuff below. I won't mention names because politics has been destructive enough already, and must stop. ...I worked on PvP. I personally do not like PvP much, but I belive it should be in-game in order to accommodate the wishes of the most players possible, on both sides. A fellow content dev who had a grudge out against me, however, saw differently. He abused my trust to get himself into a lead position and restructure the team about 1.5 - 2 years ago. He then appointed leads for each race, and even though everyone knew I was "the" Jenquai guru, he didn't give me the race. He tried to minimize my influence on the team so he could more easily force his ideas on everyone else (ideas which largely did not fit the backstory we have). He held secret Teamspeak meetings, never took or posted minutes (meeting notes), and excluded a few others also... I was marginalized and later put in charge of PvP. As several have already commented now and back then, PvP was "last" in terms of importance, dev timelines, effort, and I was alone withot any help as the sole team member. BUT, I am a do'er, a forward thinker, an optimist. I made the best of my bad spot. I made the most comprehensive design document for PvP that I could, taking into account many different aspects of the game, and balance issues. I had a lot of good community feedback back then (1 - 1.5 yrs ago). I had the vision and dedication to contribute everything I could, to make this the best game possible for the community, regardless of how some other dev was working against me and distorting the game. This dev even went so far as to attack me, repeatedly, for my progress and work, even undoing some things I had added. He erased and deleted the products of my valueable free-time from RL as a busy medical professional and husband. Someone asked earlier why the CDEV team wasn't taking any more members if they have so much to do and can't do it all? Take careful note I say "content" team. Because of politics, some of them don't want new ideas, new people. Because of politics, they don't want fresh workers to outdo them and make them look bad. Because the members they do have are playing around in EnB rather than doing real work on it most of the time. Yes, they have their moments of productivity, but largely they play. I know. I was there up until 1 year ago. I watched them. I voiced my displeasure. I pissed some of them off. They plotted against me and kicked me off. The PvP design document they are basing everything off of now and up until now is solely my work, and without any acknowledgement to me for any of it. I'd love to be back on the dev team someday, but some of them have such a mysterious animosity towards me, and now I have reason to distrust some of them... that sadly it will probably not happen. As I said above, it seems the dev team is closed to any real workers, but open to politicians. :/ For community members who are very concerned about PvP or don't like it - That's fine. Your opinions are valid, but can co-exist with the opinions of those who want PvP. EnB is designed to allow for it minimal code/server changes. I have no problem with saying that PvP is a later priority, but as I mentioned above, there's many times when CDEVs really aren't doing anything that is a priority. This excuse, to me, falls short in practice. In theory, I agree. The original EnB must be returned first. Briefly, there are different options for PvP in EnB: arenas, zone/faction, flagged. Arenas would be just like before. Zoned/faction pvp would allow for huge faction battles only against certain other factions and only in certain sectors or areas of a sector. It would also create several new, non-essential, non-throughfare sectors that are full-time compulsory pvp. Flagged pvp would allow combat anywhere but only with other flagged players and NEVER include gating or docking areas to prevent lag abuse. Bottom line is: Don't Worry about PvP. It should be added. It will be good. Hopefully eventually it does get added, sooner than later, becase even PvE fans will find ways to love and enjoy some type of PvP on occassion It can be voluntary. You can avoid it while playing 100% of all the original EnB galaxy, but... chances are, if they do it right, there's going to be very appealing lure on you to at least try PvP once You can't just quarantine off all the crazy PvP'ers and act like it doesn't exist, especially with faction battles. You'll probably want to go watch the huge slugfest! All the action will draw you in... You might want to try it out, too. The newest newbie at Lvl 1 all the way up to a maxed skillpoint Lvl 150 can find ways of enjoying balanced PVP if it is done well. JE vs PW may not be as unfair a battle as you might think, if PvP is done well. Plus, PvP isn't always about scoring a kill on another player... it can be about mining the most, exploring first, more profits, controlling the flow of goods, defending outposts or markers... if... it is done well.
  5. great news, good work What's the /switch for commandline use?
  6. Character animations are a *.w3d file and each is referenced to words in chat in an .ini file. Possible to create new ones. Ship emotes _i think_ are opcodes sent by the client. Unless there is a way to make some server scripts for movement respond to new slash commands from chat, these may be impossible to create :/ It may be possible, though, since /roll, /spin, /wave, etc all work as chat commands
  7. +1 to increasing the vault size. An excellent short term fix for woes. Hopefully no one on EnB ends up on an episode of "Hoarders". Disagree on shared vaults. Maybe on guild vaults, but not sure if the client has the ability to work with it. Not an expert on the .exe and opcodes. Modifying the GUI of the client to add buttons somewhere is relatively easy, but the "function" behind the buttons has to be in place already from the old WW/EA code.
  8. All great suggestions, especially when combined a bit of a dynamic economy at some point. Trade goods should probably always give the same XP by level, but could be more or less valueable on a given day according to target station demand. Higher lvl trade goods are definitely needed, up to L9 like everything else, with prices up to ~2-5mil or so, maybe more. Routes all need to be redesigned, and more routes put in. We need more depth of story involved also, such as each station specializing in certain trade goods based on a particular history they've had or current details. The tree idea is great, too, encouraging traders to branch out more, explore more, and do a diversity of trade routes to keep them interested in the game rather than merely going back & forth. IMO, jobs fail. The greater potential lies in trade runs at the moment.
  9. Zackman, you should definitely be a server dev here. I would like to encourage you. I believe your time involvement with EnBemu is whatever you make of it none, a little, or tons - always your choice, and I don't think anyone will think any less of a dev for being busy IRL and contributing when they can. Just as you did above, in a few minutes of free time, so you might be able to do again, right? Maybe next week, maybe 2 months from now... that's ok. Your knowledge and ability whenever you can afford to share it, will be of great use to the community. Plus if you are actually on the team, you can have the position to implement ("check in") your code changes immediately, rather than waiting around for someeone else to do it for you and/or play politics on you or whatever.
  10. Of course. One good design feature about my banner is that it's very easy to either extend it or have a complimentary .gif or .jpg next to it to extend it (but keep individual image size and thus loading times down) over to the right more, adding ships, mobs, character faces, or anything else in.

    keymap.ini

The average gamer will not understand batch files, but otherwise a helpful suggestion. How long does it really take to change the patcher/update file list? Really? 30 seconds? less? It's time well spent, not wasted. Some dev just go find patch.net-7.org/Client/Files.txt , open in notepad , F3 (search) keymap.ini , delete, save, close. Problem solved for everyone.
  12. +1 It's so easy it should have already been done Props to kyp for doing it on some of the vendors he's worked on. No offense intended, but no he doesn't. In fact pretty much no dev on the team right now has any idea of how to make new assets for the game like new textures, models, new ships, new characters, tattoos, etc. Most of them are not mod'ers, and they've never made anything new for EnB. I am a mod'er, and I have already made new assets for EnB, and put them in-game It's actually quite easy, depending on what you want to change. No un/re-mixing is necessary. The client can read individual files also.
  13. ...seriously, why was this question even asked in the first place, much less 5 pages of discussion on it? IMO, there is no issue, no debate, no question, no ambiguity. No macros of any kind ever at all period. Why question specific wording unless to come as close to the edge of abuse as one possibly can? Just enjoy a book, or enjoy chatting while on trade runs. If some players think trade runs are so unbearable as to entice them to macro, how about instead those players suggest changes and improvements to trade to make it more interesting. Eventually, maybe, (it was discussed among devs some time ago iirc) /commands might be possible to autopilot players around the galaxy, but until then just take the effort to actually PLAY the game that some of us have worked so hard to create for you.
  14. BT3025 - an awesome MP version of MW. There was a BT3028 project after the original went defunct and never got out of beta, but I dunno the status of that.
  15. No offense intended to whomever did the work, it's nice enough for a temporary banner, but I just wanted to suggest something new/better. I made the following banner and/or ad image probably about 2 years ago now. I've got versions in several different background colors, transparancy set and not set, earth only, earth and moon, or just the text:
  16. re: JT shield building skills, yes, they can build shields. At least, they should get this skill, as was originally intended. Some may say Jenq shields are terrible, but only in their cap compared to terran and progen shields. The advantage of Jenq shields, especially rarer drop-only models, is the buffs they give. With player-made jenq shields, these unique and useful buffs become multiplied! The lower cap, and lower level (L8 max) can be offset by incredible buffs. It's not "unfair" at all, rather, it would be unfair to Jenqs if no class could build shields. Consider that the PT can build reactors, and the PE builds shields. Both other races need the corresponding skill equality. TE builds reactors. TT builds shields. JE builds reactors. JT builds shields. Remember, neither Jenq nor Prog may build or use the other's items, so this prevents any L8 200%QL progen shields on jenq ships. Jenq can only use L8 shields, max.
