Who Borked The Database?

Recommended Posts

Half of the useful data has been removed from the database. Important stuff, like what race/class combinations can use an item, and so on.

If you're going to change something this vital, please put a test version up before replacing a perfectly good, working system with a broken one.

Edit: I should add, I like the new, larger format, but not at the cost of vital information. Long ago the drop mob and other information was already removed, but we can live with that. The latest missing information is vital, however, for planning your characters.

The new version has already been tested, there will possibly be the odd tweak here and there.

The old 'perfectly good one' was changed as requested by the playerbase.

Looks good to me.

Thanks Karu...

Looks good to me as well, although when in your account vault and you click an item it pops up in a new tab.
This is good but if you click on another item in the new tab, ie: something that item can build
It takes you out of account vault and brings you to the database tab when you may already have stuff ready to transfer and all that is lost.
It can be very annoying when you set stuff to move already and you have to redo it.
It used to stay on the account vault, opening as many tabs as you needed.
This change happened not with this update but a previous update awhile back.
Please make it stay on account vault tab again.
Thanks for the updates.

Race/class (and some other) info is relocated and only shown when where is something to show i.e. 'Race: All' is useless, as is 'Manufacturable: Yes' or 'Tradable: Yes'

I disagree, these fields are useful.  The biggest source of confusion right now is that players don't know this information is still in the database, if they're on an item and it says "Race: All", they will know where to look for that information on subsequent searches.  Seasoned players will figure this out over time, but the missing data will increase the learning curve for new players that are just coming to the game.

Also, from a readability perspective, it's actually more efficient and quicker for the human brain to have all the fields presented.  We are very good at recognizing patterns, so if you have a box that always shows the same fields in the same order, we are much better at picking out the relevant information.  It takes the brain longer to register that a value is missing then it takes it to locate the value in a list.

Personally, I would prefer to see all the fields shown(Avatars Owning Items, Avatars with Recipe, Race, Class, etc.) on the screen.  That way there's no confusion whether it's in the database or not.

If you want to get real fancy, list all the items, and make them bold if the item has a restriction i.e.

If all can use show: "Race: All"

If Terran only show: "Race: Terran Only"

Change is always a bit disorienting and nobody really likes it, but it'll pass. Probably on second visit people already know what to look for.

Because ingame only lists restrictions aswell, I did not think of it too much.

You really just have to change your way of thinking.

New players will be fine with this because they don't know the old way.

So you have to think of the database like this now:
Everything is usable by everyone and if its not it will tell you that.

Everything can be manufactured unless it says otherwise.
